Mills Black Cherry Authenticity
« on: April 29, 2017, 06:47:19 PM »
I found a Mills Black Cherry at an antique mall for $1700 that looks to be in good condition, and it pays out when you win. I'm wondering if it's authentic or not because it has a single cherry win. From what I have read online this usually means it's not an authentic mills slot. The elevator does work. I was not able to look inside the slot because they did not have the right key at the store, but it will be there tomorrow for me to look at. Is there anything that I should look for that can tell me whether it's authentic or not? I did find this guide http://www.ibuyoldslots.com/ReproArticle.html, but any additional help would be appreciated. Here are some pictures:

Thanks,
Draco

Howdy,
The Black Cherry looks authentic.  Payout up to this machine & other Mills Machines went like this.
On older machines it took Two Cherries to get Two Coins & Two Cherries and a Bell or Lemon
paid out 4 coins.  As time went on One Cherry paid 2 Coins and Two Cherries with any symbol on the third reel
paid out 5.

By this time, the payout slides or payouts became to be known as odd or even.
Nice looking machine. For home use and a bit more fun, I would want a jackpot in front filled with coins.
Perhaps your machine has on in it and the owner. Just disconnected it and hand paid the amount for the player having 3 BARS on the payout line.

If your machine does not have a jackpot in it better figure a couple hundred or so more, to find the jackpot and additional or missing springs /? ect
If you have a coin tin box and the jackpot is in the machine, it looks like all is well and don't forget the handle pump on the lower bottom left and coin box on right
    Good luck
           Chief.
P.S. Photos of what you should see inside. Empty case shows Jackpot in Center of Machine.

Thanks for the information Chief! I looked at the insides today, and it looked really good. The jackpot didn't work so that was a deal breaker for me. I agree in that the jackpot full of coins looks good. It did look similar to the jackpot picture you posted.  Unfortunately I didn't think to take any pictures of the inside. It did have the lock for the cash box, but no key.

Draco_Elessar.,
   Howdy,
Usually, when someone disables a jackpot, they just unhook the correct spring. My guess is that it has not been used for a long, long time and just needs some light oil worked in.

If I really wanted it and I was willing to take a chance on the Jackpot and getting it to work, would not take too much!.
I would tell them the Jackpot does not work and no wonder it has not sold. I would offer $500. less or keep looking.
               Good Luck

Chief,

Does the spring just stop coins from filling the jackpot and just do a pass through or does it just not pay out?

I have read that some of the Mills slots came from the factory with non-working jackpots. Is there a way to tell if the jackpot has been disabled or it was never made to work?

I decided to keep looking. They went down to $1500. It would have been my fist mechanical slot, and I would like a fully working one.

Thanks again for all of the help and info!

Draco,
The spring we were speaking of, just allows the jackpot to drop its coins. The coins come through the  escalator and then in to the tube to the Jackpot & Reserve. When they are full the extra coins go to the coin box below.
Go to e-bay and buy the Mills Book by Fey for 29 0r39.  It will help you a lot.
You will know when you see it!. What you really want.
                          Good Looking
