Lets put some clarity to this.

1. The meter in the machine is a 12 cell basic display - no graphics but you can have text and 3 colors. It is designed to talk to a CHAM II controller.
2. The Cham II controller is a display controller that gets its data feed from a CON2i progressive link controller.
**** It was mentioned above that a CON1 would work - it won't. A CON1 is an older series of gear that has different controllers and meters.
3. The CON2i link controller is designed to connect to many machines and talk to multiple display controllers.
SLOT === CON2 === ChamII === Meter.
4. The CON2i is programmed using a program called PSP from a laptop with a custom 9 pin serial cable. You can take a standard serial cable and short a couple of pins
- several threads on the site of how to do this.
5. If your newer laptop does not have a 9pin serial port you will need a USB to 9pin cable, then a regular serial cable that you can modify. You plug your modified one into the other as an extension.
6. A CON2i can be an expensive venture. $300-$800 range. Please note the 'i' in CON2i as that denotes IGT - lots of CON2's around but very few Con2i's. Making them more expensive.
7. If you have no intention of wiring several machines up to have a linked progressive I would suggest you replace your Cham II with a Cham II+
- The Chamii+ (again note the plus) is a standalone progressive controller that works with just 1 machine ($70-$150) and will work with your meter.
- You still use PSP and the modified serial cable to program it.
8. The nice thing about the meter you have and the ChamII+ is that it can be used in almost any flavor of slot machine.
9. IF you want a fancier display there is one called a Supreme which cables directly to the CON2i and you can create graphic sequences that get downloaded directly to the Supreme. When you program the CON2i you reference the graphic sequence kept in the display. These do not work from the Cham II+

10. I don't know a whole bunch about the spectrum but I believe its a standalone meter / progressive in one unit, and is IGT not Mikohn. It works only with the IGTS2000 and not the older S+ models.
The suggestion in the threads above is to buy a spectrum and replace your current meter and the Cham II (non plus) unit you have.

Hope this makes sense.

Yes that CDS unit in the link is the correct one. As long as you have an S2000 it will work.
I noticed that seller also has stand alone Mikhon units for sale but you might want to review on requirements for a cable and programming process.
The CDS unit is complete with all wiring and all you will need is a key chip. Also tell him what type of top box you have as the mounting differs slightly.( round top, chop top, etc)

Thanks Jay for the clarification I thought con1 would work with chamII.

The CON1 had no standalone progressive features that I am aware of.

You use a CON1 to a LED5 which drives a small 14 cell small format meter. LED in this case = Link Extension Device, or ChamI

They also have a LED4 which drives a larger display (16" wide x 3" tall) and you can put up to 16 of these together for a 1x16 (1 tall, 16 wide) or a 2 x 8 (2 tall, 8 wide).
The latter is a slightly larger than 10' sign. I run this over my bar.  You need a separate power supply for every 6 panels.

Relatively speaking the CON1 / LED devices are cheaper than the CON2 CHam II series.

Glad you got it working!!
From what I remember about the spectrum there is no way to center the amount as the room to the left is for a larger jackpot amount.
