magnatized door
« on: December 09, 2016, 04:09:06 PM »
I have a 17" game king I just put together and have a interesting issue.

I put a CRT in to the game after taking the old one out that was labeled "bad"

The new CRT I put in works fine, but looked horrible in this game at which point I realized.. the door was causing the problem. The door of the unit is holding a significant magnetic charge. causing the monitor to basically be ruined (Im assuming the old monitor was bad due to the door's long term effects)

anyone experience this? any tricks?

Yes, you need to degauss the monitor probably.  I'm assuming when you mean "ruined" is that you get weird colors as you move the door.  It is not because the door has magnetic charge, it is actually the other way around.  The door's metallic content is causing a disturbance in the magnetic field the monitor creates (sounds like a star wars thing).  Degaussing the monitor evens the field with the surrounding magnetic fields by introducing a bias to compensate for it.  I bet if you rotate the cabinet around a bit with the door closed, the patterns on the tv will change.   It is rare that a newer monitor would not have a degaussing coil around the edge of the screen (usually some sort of metal band going around the monitor).  Does your monitor have this coil?  If it does not degauss inself at power up, then there's probably a menu function to do it, just look for something that looks like a magnet on one of the menus.

its a ceronix monitor 1793 I see a Degaussing coil but no way to activate it so it's automatic.. but all the same wont fix the issue in my case.

there is no buttons or OSD for these older monitors I also have a Kortek here a little newer in my parts bin but the red gun isnt working with it.. also has no buttons or apparent way to activate anything.

also if I run magnetic film on the door I see electromagnetic fields. so not sure Degaussing is even going to correct for the fields.

Before I put the LCD in I took a huge demagnaziter for industrial applications I had stuck it on the slot and it fixed the issues - I was surprised it didn't damage anything
