Need help with "Main Battery Low"
« on: March 09, 2017, 02:10:08 PM »
Hi, new to the forum.  I've had a Game King for years, but haven't used it in a couple.  When I went to play, there was a low battery indicator that came on.

I went online and found a link to purchase a new battery holder and battery and soldered it in.  After installation I get an error message.  I'm not sure what I need to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(I've included a picture of the error, the board, the board number, the battery install).  The battery I'm using is a CR2032.

1) Is it possible the new battery is just bad?  Is it correct?
2) Do I need to reset something?
3) There is a set of wires that go from the key in front to the board.  I'm not sure if this was supposed to be connected--I don't think I have a key for this lock.  Okay to disconnect?  Does it matter?  What's it for?
4) Lastly, if you look at the picture of the screen the background is dark.  How do I switch this to a bright blue?  Blue seems to be okay as you can see from CASH indicator and lights up the whole screen when service is selected.

Thanks for taking the time to help
Brian

Hi Brian.  Welcome to  :nlg-logo: .

Double check your battery holder, I think it's installed 180 degrees out (backwards).  The positive side should be oriented towards the metal tray  It also appears the battery is installed upside down.  A CR2032 battery will work fine and last a few more years.

You have a 3802 MPU board.  The keyswitch is used in early GK software to access "privileged options" menus.   You can get your machine operational without it, but may not be able to change certain settings like the payback percentage without it.

Once you clear the Main Battery Low error message I think you set the background to blue.  Press the white self test button on the MPU and some option menus will appear.  You should be able to change it somewhere in there.

So there is something amiss with the battery holder--I think you are right.  The battery was upside down, but when I did that there was a new error in big letters "No Signal Check the Signal Cable"--I think the holder is reversed somehow.  I will check it tomorrow and see what can be done.  (With the battery removed I get the message I had before so I guess holder is incorrectly installed.)

There is a setting to change the background color that I can access and save, but maybe the changes aren't taking effect?

I need to tackle the battery issue first.  I will report back once I've swapped the holder.

Thanks again,
Brian

Yes it looks like the battery holder was installed backwards. Also you have to be careful about sone of the battery and holder sets sold on ebay. I have had a lot of customers that have installed them and the holders were wrong or faulty and dont hold the battery properly.
