Yes for sure  was my next step to remove it.

That’s why I was wondering which chip needs to go.

Will try to resize some pics, they are all in high resolution  :banghead:

I've repaired several 500 boards. I just did a REV D last week. They are just early 500 series boards. I've seen REV C's too. That board will work fine in his machine since the audio comes from the top box I believe.
I actually do have an audio rework that makes then nearly as quiet as 504's tho. lol...   Without it, they are useless and noisy with an MML2. Worse than 501's.

You do understand that the Varta is not needed for a machine at home?
It's what they call a "telltale" battery...it "tells" the casino that someone was messing around with the machine while it was OFF.
There's an onboard chip that's part of the re-charging system.

Now's a good time to take a high resolution photo of that particular area of the circuit board, and post it in your next Reply.
There are experts here that will tell you what to do next by taking one look at your photo.

Personally, I've never seen an S2K 500 MPU, although I've heard they exist.
I've only played around with the 502, 504 and newer MPU's.
It sounds like your MPU is one of the older MPU versions, and could very well be hitting over 20+ years old.
That could explain why it's acting weird....it may of said "I've had enough!"  haha

Thanks for the detailed reply.

i will try to explain what's happening.

I bought the machine and was fully working. Occasionally I got some messages like closure MB but after open and closing the door they go away.

After the machine was off for a week I got a variety of errors. Display went on and of and the machine was tripping a bit. I left is for a couple of minutes like this and after I while I restarted it by powering it down and up and then it worked.

Thinking of a memory issue related to a bad battery I measured the Varta after it was off for 2 days. The battery was 1,5v

Powered it up and left it for 10 minutes. After that I measured again with a powered down machine and it was 4 v.

That was the reason why I wanted to have a better investigation on the battery and battery area.

Strangely at the moment I started desoldering the Varta it was about 2,5v. When it was off the board an laying around for an hour the voltage went up to eventually 3,7 volt.

It looks like there is something making a shortage on the board or components.

So battery replaced with a pack which not worked and then installed a new varta. Needed to reboot several times to get the machine out of it errors and to start the netplex auto config.

At this stage all reels spin like they should.

Since it was still giving some errors I finally needed to reboot again and then the problems with the reel 5 starts.

This tells me that there's nothing wrong with the harness.
Just to make sure I performed some of the mentioned steps like switching the reels 4 and 5. Problem remains on 5.
Since the problems started after it performed the netplex auto config I assume the problem is somewhere in the config or software related.

What components could make these strange issues with the varta battery ?
Why is it charged that quickly and discharging in a couple of days ?

About the board, unfortunately there are no tags on it anymore. I only have the part number on or actually in the board itself.
It is the 75510500 rev D

maybe with this we can check what chip needs to be removed. U16 or U79 ?

Oh yeah you are 100% correct, a surge protector is a must on all electronic equipment.    I was using the surge switch also, but I wanted a direct switch to the power supply.  I completely dumped the metal cover holding the old switch.  I could just see that cutting wires by taking it off and putting it on all the time while messing around in the cabinet.

Definitely would be interested, unfortunately way to far away. Gorgeous machine.

2nd #1: Just get a good surge strip and use it to turn machine on and off and protect it at the same time.
