yes sir, I saw his website, trying to save $$ for new boards, as I suspect the problem. Have you seen the web site for new Summit boards? I saw it some where on web, can't find it now. Yep, checked all line voltages, good to go there. I wonder if you still need the 3.6 volt battery? I have another Summit, it plays great, no battery. Thanks for the tip.

Have you pulled the boards (with power off) and cleaned the contacts on the card slot?

Pull the reel assembly out and clean the male beau plugs very well with wire brush and Deoxit electronic cleaner and use a small automotive points file or similar to clean oxidize from the inside  female beau plug connectors.

Thank-you, I will work on that today. I do have an auto distributor point file, and other smaller round files, will go and some contact cleaner spray, I'll get a fresh product as my spray is many years old, and a fresh soft wire brush, Harbor Freight has the best prices. Thanks again for the tip, I do appreciate it!

For a file choice use the thinnest flat type file . You do not want to create a loose connection by over extending the female connectors. You may have to grind a small amount off the width  to make the file the same width as the  male connector.

thank you sunrise! I have a good selection of small flat files, my dad was an instrument mechanic at National Airport here years ago, and I have all his fine tools. I'll be careful not to over file the slots, loose connection with the pins wouldn't be good. I need a fresh can of contact cleaner, my old stuff says no plastic use. I hope this will work, if not, it has to be the slot controller card, I saw somewhere new cards are being produced and programmed, any idea who that is, thought was in New Jersey, I could be wrong. Joey at NLG said he remembered seeing that website also. I'll post again when I get pins ans slots cleaned. Regards, Carl

To check line voltages on most Summit games, see pictures 1 and 2 for instructions. I have an authorized copy of the Auto Slot Manual. I'll share the information here.

Here is what I found, I guess when Summit refitted these machines, they eliminated the rear pin and slot wire connections, Instead, they have 5 pin connectors to the back of the card cage. See pics. I did painstakingly remove each wire connector, beginning with closest connector and worked back to the farthest connector, and cleaned as directed. Haven't reinstalled or tested yet. The cable harness runs to the top right rear of the reel mech, and plugs in to the female connectors mounted in an add-on bracket by Summit. I cleaned both female and male connectors.

SOME PROGRESS! I cleaned the slot board connectors, installed a battery in the slot control board, and now have a tilt light on and different tilt code in the payout meter, it doesn't appear to be a normal tilt code to me? This is nearing the end to my knowledge and pay grade here. I do know when these cards need repair it takes some expensive equipment and training. I've seen a friend's work bench who overhauled these cards, allot of stuff. Unfortunately, he moved away from Atlantic City and quit the slot tech business. I've inspected the boards, all transistors, resistors, etc look fine, none burnt or blown up. So that leaves the processing chips, all made in Japan. At least the reel mech is good to go, just need a slot controller board I believe, or could be the interface board too. I'll mess with it some more today, need to find someone who can repair these board or replace. The manual says slot controller cards can be interchanged between machines, unless its EPROM. I do have the nickel SUMMIT, that plays fine, don't know I want to switch the boards though, hate to damage the good board. What do you think? Thanks for everyone help so far, I'm not giving up hope yet!!

I went ahead and switched the Giant Jackpot yellow control card with the card in the Summit Nickel machine, and got the same code read-out, just a zero at the end of the payout meter, so, that card needs a repair, any ideas??

Going to order a new slot controller card from HMS Electronics, will let you know if the new board fixes the game. I am 90% sure this is the problem now. By putting this card in other slot machine and get same read out and problem.

Ok fellow Summit friends. The issue has been resolved! This is what was wrong with my Giant Jackpot game. The "game chip" failed. As I understand it, Summit guaranteed the game chips for a period of 25 years. This is going back to about 1980, not later than 1985 I believe when they ceased production. I sent the slot controller card to HMS Electronics, and Dick was kind enough to struggle through the programming process on a new chip he had made for these games. Even the reproduced chips have a 40% failure rate. I got the slot controller board back yesterday, and plugged it in today, and everything worked. Insert coin light back on, game over light works, appears to be paying correct too. This 4 reel game has so many different payouts, I can see how it would be a pain to program this game. I'm just glad the game is playing like new again, and all the work I did on the reel mech wasn't a waste of time. The reels have like new kickoff speed, the stop levers all cleaned and lubed work perfect. I suspect most of these Summit games will be history soon, as the game chips die. If you suspect this to be your trouble, you better contact HMS Electronics soon, as Dick is going to be retiring next year and will quit work on Summit chips. Glad I didn't have to junk this rare Summit Giant Jackpot machine! Thank-you again to HMS Electronics, worth every cent my friends. O do have a few bulbs to replace, that is easy and will be fun again.

Can you post a photo of the slot controller card showing the game chip that failed? (or the part number if you know it). There might be someone else that could help with programming these since Dick will be retiring and not available soon.

Thanks!

Here are a couple pictures of the slot controller card from the Summit Giant Jackpot machine. I believe the new chip is in the front right hand side, from Singapore. The rest appear original chips made in Japan and I believe have a more than 25 year shelf life, it's just the game program chip that dies, for whatever reason(s). If you have a "game chip" in one of these Summit slot controller cards that you suspect is failing, I can give you the signs of the failing chip as I have witnessed it first hand over the years on this machine. The second picture is the new chip I am certain now. I compared to my other Summit nickel game control card, and that chip is also Japan, but was replaced back in 1995. May send that one in to HMS also. Only a matter of time before all these game chips are dead, and that will be the end of working Summit slot games I believe.

That chip (the one with the round window on top) is a standard eprom called a "2732A". Although it is an older type of eprom it is still fairly easily found. Anyone with an eprom burner can make a backup copy of the chip and recreate it with another 2732A eprom.  The 2732A eprom chip sells for as low as 50 cents. (you won't be able to find new ones, only used ones that are verified good). If you have several of these Summit slot controller boards I'd find someone that can make a backup of this essential chip.
