PSP V3.01 Not Working
« on: October 13, 2016, 04:32:54 PM »
Can anyone confirm that PSP V3.01 is compatible with the ChamII+?  My old v2.0 works just fine but V3.01 refuses to communicate with my chamII+ controllers.
The 1st pic is what I get when I hit F1 to send. The program just freezes on this screen and I have to reboot to get out.
The 2nd pic is what I get when I hit F2 to load the current settings from the chamII board. F10 will let me escape but only once. If I try to F2 a second time, it will freeze the program and require a restart. Surely V3.01 uses the same custom cable that I made for V2.0??

Big,
If you created the files with 2.0 they will not work with 3.01.
I keep separate files for each. Try creating the file on 3.01 and send it to the chamII+ and see if that works. Cables are the same.

Rich,
The first pic above was from an attempt to send a file using 3.01 that was created with 3.01. I don't even know how I would go about using 3.01 to send a file created with 2.0. Should I try wiping (birth) on the controller to get the 2.0 files cleared out before trying to send a 3.01 file to it?

Thanks, Brad

Never had that problem. Are you using the same laptop to get to DOS for the PSP program?

Yes, same laptop. For 2.0, I run it from a bootable floppy (requires startup with floppy inserted in the drive). For 3.01, it runs from a desktop shortcut. The screen displays the little MSDOS symble in the top left so I just figured it was in dos. Plus it asked for the usual PSP password and usual file path etc..

You might want to try bootable floppy. It doesn't sound like it's making to the serial port.

You should just be able to go to a DOS prompt and run PSP from there. Either version should work. However don't run them from an ICON. Go to DOS first then run them.

On Windows 98 ... create a desktop shortcut - RightClick, New, Shortcut. Type the word COMMAND.
Double click on the new ICON and you get a black DOS box. Type CD \PSP to get to the correct directory and execute the program by typing PSP.
(I am making the assumption that PSP 2.0 is in the default PSP subdirectory).

On Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 ... the shortcut is CMD (not command).

Thanks guys, I'll try it your way Jay when I get home from work. Running windows 98, do I need to have the cd for PSP 3.01 in the drive when when attempting to launch using the dos command prompt method or will it find the program files that I saved on the hard drive?

You simply want to change directories to where you stored it...

Assuming you had a tree like this.
PSP
  - V2
  - V3

The DOS command to go into the V3 directory would be.

CD \PSP\V3

then you would type PSP to start the program....When you type PSP it is looking for a file in the current directory called PSP.EXE
EXE files are executables....

From DOS you could look for anything that starts with P by typing DIR P*  (where * is a wildcard).

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Okay, I executed it directly from DOS. Still getting the same results. I am really starting to think that it's a comm port issue. Using PSP2.0, you are able to select comm port 1 or 2. V3.01 does not give you that option or I at least don't see that option. Little brother who's computer knowledge is far more advanced than my own, is going to come over tomorrow with a breakout box and see if V3.01  is sending anything to my serial port. 4 hours yesterday and 6 more today spent jacking with this program. I'm throwing in the towel and going to bed. Stupid slot machines..
