Fast answer;
A QLD machine should be missing a coms board and hard meters. This is the only difference with a NSW machine.

You can buy meters easily from this site: https://transcitygroup.com.au/shop/refurbished-stock/ref-113.html
You can buy a coms board too: https://transcitygroup.com.au/shop/refurbished-stock/ref-306.html

* Without hard meters NOTHING will be playable.

* You might be lucky and have a machine that was converted from NSW with meters, but doubt it.

--------------

Slow answer;

Also just to be sure of your machine, can you take a photo inside your Logic Cage. There should be a missing board on the right. (IO/Expansion Board) Look close to the top of left of the backplane there will be 'Mechanical Meters' written on the PCB but nothing plugged in. Without the meters installed nothing will be playable, it will have error in the lockup screen. But this can be sorted if you buy from above.

MK5/NSW = Needs Coms board and Hard Meters.
MK5/NZ = No coms board but needs Hard Meters plus main board with 3 batteries.
MK5/USA = Not Compatible with your mainboard and backplane (forget it).

MK6/NSW = Needs Coms board and Hard Meters
MK6/NZ = No coms board but needs Hard Meters plus NZ QCOM backdoor software using serial cable and PC etc. (Pain in ass).
MK6/USA = Hard Meters only, does not need coms board to play. But the downside is setting up games is a bit tricky. (not for noobs).

Tip: MK6 boards (original and XP) are totally universal. MK5 is not.

In the end, you need a coms board to run AU/NSW games. However you can at least 'run' NZ games as they require the board to NOT be installed. If you have a MK6 then you are in luck because you can run USA games as they don't require a coms board. But still need meters.

With the meters, you need to make your own loom, an old IDE cable will do. It's possible the plug is missing off the backplane so you'll need to be (or get a friend) who can solder a connector or wires directly onto the backplane. It's very easy as it's pin > pin to the Meter board.

I cannot help with software, except suggesting buying the original eproms from USA Ebay and trademe.co.nz . But you'll have to be patient :p

Good luck!

Hey Ben,

The QLD games unfortunately requires a network 'link' etc to be connected. It's called QCOM, this was designed so they can't run standalone without the expected link. I heard there are QCOM emulator boxes, but they are very hard to find if at all, perhaps someone else might help with this.

NZ also use QCOM but the games can be set to run standalone with a serial cable and hacky software.

The only practical way is to just replace the game to something other than QLD and get the hard meters and coms board.  With the other brands, they might have the meters installed but if not you'll need to find them too and they are brand specific etc.

The trouble is, it's not raw meter pules, it's actually serial data going to the (in your case) missing meter board. So the 'resistor pack' only works at the point of the *actual* little meter itself.  Just so you know, on the meter board there are I/O chips, that 'talk' to the main board and send pules to the meters, so it will just error/lockup.  - For the price of the meter board (and the fun of making your own cable haha) it's almost a non issue.

The 'other' brands *might* work because if they are 'straight' meters, so there is no I/O and controllers in the way. - Infact there is a good chance it will work if you see a big bunch of solder points in a big row and it says 'meter 1, meter 2, meter 3' etc then the resister method would probably work yes.

Later!
