Need help upgrading 3902 w/4.3 to 5.1
« on: May 06, 2017, 10:45:10 AM »

I currently have a 3902 with 4.3 software installed which I want to upgrade to run the 5.1 software.  I purchased the 5.1 software on eBay but I can't seem to get it running, perhaps I didn't install the SIMM modules or EEPROM chips correctly.

I have both the Key 22 and 17 chips just in case.

What chips go where? :Please_Post_Pictures_2clr:

Hi and welcome to New Life Games...

Your eproms go on the MPU pictured. They are marked GM1-GM4 on the board and the eproms.. The longer SB chip goes in the longer board socket.. Make sure you install them in the right direction. The end notch on the sockets to the notch on the eproms.. Now for the Simms you have there, your going to need to get at adaptor board that plugs onto the MPU to mount the Simms.. One of the venders here should have one.. While your doing the game change, you might consider changing your boards battery to a battery holder and new coin style battery.. That way later on you just will need to replace the battery, no soldering needed..
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

GME 3 goes in PXL 1 (U14)
GME 4 goes in PXL 2 (U37)

The CGF Simm (Larger one) goes at the socket near the edge and by CG1 and CG2 (Lays Down)

The PXL Simm goes in the socket by the Ram Chips near the Game Eproms and use J6 (Stands Up)

You will need a Multimedia Sound Board for the SND Simm, however you could play the game without it to start

I didn't have much success on getting the gameking to boot after installing the chips, after reset the picture appeared as random dots.  After I pulled the base ROM and placed it in my chip reader attached to my pc, the code on it seemed to be incomplete.  I can post if someone wants to take a look at it.  Perhaps someone has a working .bin file they can send my way since I already purchased the software license and chip set.

What makes you think that?  What is the M000XXXX number of your base chip?  What does it give for a checksum?

Solved the problem, it was the Base chip giving me the problems.

A special thanks to Tilt and the NLG members who took the time to lend a hand...
I greatly appreciate all your efforts and help.   :applause:
