Hey folks, I'm sorry for the noobie post.  I will try to keep it concise!  I am a tech guy, love getting my hands dirty.  Recently took on a full pinball machine ground up restoration (Rollercoaster Tycoon) and have it working like new.  When I bought it I didn't know how to take the glass out or open the door.  Was a ground up experience!

Tech sales by trade, woodworking is my hobby.

So I wanted a few machines for my home office and got the following two - a Cleopatra (original with CRT) machine, and a Triple Stars 4 reel machine.  Both are in great condition with a few exceptions that I need help with!

On the IGT Triple Stars, one of the counters at the base likes to occasionally just go haywire and count / spin as fast as it can.  I believe it happens when money is inserted or won / cashed out.  It clicks like crazy and runs indefinitely.  I'm not sure if that's an issue with the little reel counter itself or the machine telling it to go nuts.  Can I unsolder the wires from that board without worry?  I have no need for any of the 3 counters.

Second, on the Cleopatra, the lights next to the CRT, behind the Machine Accepts Tickets / $1,5,10, etc) vertical bar are incandescent and VERY yellow/orange.  I had a few leftover LEDs from the slot machine restore and plugged a white one in, and it looked MUCH better.  Then I noticed that the LED was a 6.3 volt plugged into a 12v slot.  Oops.  It was nice and bright for a few seconds though :P  Anyways, put the incandescent back in for now.  Can anyone tell me what that two prong press in bulb form factor is, and where to buy LED replacements for that style bulb?  Would like to fix that quickly.

The CRT is badly burned in with poker images and text, so the seller says he will send an LCD out to replace it which is generous. It was listed on ebay as 'plays and looks new' but that was not completely the case.  I understand it's an old machine, but the screen is really bad.  Hoping to have that resolved soon.

Anyways, if anyone can assist with those couple issues I'd be VERY appreciative!  I'm on a learning quest and hope to be helping others around here soon!

Adam

Hmmm.. that pic wasn't sideways before.  Sorry about that :/

Oh here are my two machines!  No rhyme or reason as to why I chose these two, just wanted to learn on IGT and not break the bank.  Wanted a touchscreen and traditional reel style machine.

Also, the red candle light blinks always on the Cleopatra.  Gotta go figure out what's up with that...

Thanks all!

Could the blinking candle be due to the red "Call Attendant" or "Change" pushbutton? Have you tried pressing it again?

This might be the style of 12 volt LED's you are looking for, or similar.

I have this LED panel which will light up the denom panel. It will light up the whole piece and not just in spots like bulbs do. Picture of front and back.

@rokgpsman I definitely tried that.  The white light illuminates when pressing the attendant button.  After a reboot of the machine, the red light has turned off and everything is working as normal from that standpoint.

I pulled the CRT out of this machine to check the connection type - WOW no wonder this machine weighs what it does.  Can't wait to get the LCD replacement in!

I'm sure your seller knows this, but make sure you also get the correct bezel for the lcd screen.
It is different than the crt bezel.

Thank you Jimise - yes it has CRT today but the LCD panel will be here next week.   The CRT on it is definitely - tired.

As a quick side note, can anyone tell me what model IGT this is considered?  I'd like to think about replacing the grass cans firmware sometime to be able to convert to a different themed machine (or at least explore the possibility!)

Which machine are you referring to? I believe the Triple Stars machine is an IGT model S2000, not sure about the Cleopatra, maybe it is an IGT model "I Plus" ? Also, what are the "grass cans" you mention?

In general, inside the machine will be a main logic circuit board, it is commonly called the "mpu" board. On that board will be replaceable chips (eproms) or software modules that contain the game software. You can remove the game software chips and install other software chips for a different game. On the Triple Stars machine you will need to replace the symbol strips (called reel strips) that are attached to the spinning reels. And to make the conversion complete you will want to change out the decorative glass plates. On the Triple Stars the upper glass is called the "award" glass because it shows the payoffs. The lower glass is called the "belly" glass. Sometimes you can find all of the parts needed for the conversion in a "game kit", other times you have to buy the parts separately.

If you do change to a different game there are often different versions of software for the same game, the versions allow you to select software with high, low or medium winning percentages. This is because different casinos want different levels of player winning percentage. Typically it can range from something like 80% to 99% player winning percentage but that can vary. On the S2000 the player win percentage is controlled by the version of software chip you install. On the I game machine the player win percentage can often be set by getting into the setup/preferences menu that is part of the Test/Diagnostic/Accounting software that is built into the machine.

Your reel game is an s2000 and the video game is an Igame/Gameking. As stated above, post a picture of the MPU board and a member can tell you what type it is and what software you are currently running. Game changes on either are rather simple, but require programming chips dependent on what board type and software you have. Especially on the video machine

Attached are some pics of the mainboard on the machine.  Appreciate any pointers on where new software can be found / purchased for this board.  Would be fun to have some different options, even if I can't match it with the proper glass at the time.

Thank you!
Adam

That is what is commonly called 3902 board .. those numbers are the last four digits of the part number (75703902) for the board.

You can get I Game Plus games which uses both button decks -- top and bottom rows.

You can also get Game King poker games which will only use the bottom row of buttons.

You may already know but just in case,,,,,

On your mpu there is a battery (circled in red below), it eventually has to be replaced when the voltage drops too low. Looks like yours is soldered to the board, sometimes they are in battery holders to make it easier to replace.

The game software resides in the 2 chips circled in yellow. They can be removed and replaced with other chips if you want to change to a different game. That red tape residue is leftover from when the casino put tape on them for security reasons, to detect if someone has messed around with the software.

Your mpu board has a piggy-back board, called a "media board". I think the simm board that is circled in light-blue color is for the enhanced sounds you hear when playing the game.

Thanks rokgpsman!  That helps a lot.  Now I know what to look for (although it seems eBay and the like are nearly devoid of many of these parts and accessories which surprises me.)
