Have you tried contacting S & B Amusements, I think they used to work in the Austin area?

Hopefully they or someone they can recommend will be able to help you, don't hesitate to ask them who all does slot machine repair in the Austin area when you are talking to them.

There may be someone here on NLG that is in the Austin area that I'm not aware of. Or someone here may know of another place for you to check with. If so maybe they will post a message, so keep checking in.

If you've figured out what the problem is with the machine and it is something that can be shipped out for repair let us know what the item is (main control circuit board, display monitor/screen, power supply, hopper, progressive unit, etc) and maybe there will be suggestions for that.

The error code 12 usually just means the battery on the mpu board is bad and needs replaced. You may be able to take care of that yourself. Sometimes the battery is in a battery holder and you just remove the old battery and slip in a new one. Or you can take the circuit board to a place like Batteries Plus and they can install a new battery.

The mpu board is the main control circuit board for the machine. It is medium large size, about 16 inches square, located in the bottom portion of your machine in the coin hopper area. If you want to learn more about how to remove this board and possibly change the battery yourself just let us know. It isn't that difficult to do, many home slot owners take care of it on their own.

Donit yourself and you'll need a programming chip to re-enable the bill validator. Might possibly to clear a 61-1 error also

Unplug your machine from the wall. Always be safe and smart when doing stuff like this.

Open the main door of your machine and look in the bottom area around the coin hopper. Either on the left side wall or on the back wall there will be an unpainted flat aluminum metal tray (about the size of a cookie sheet) with a round black handle. Mounted to the other side of that metal tray is your mpu board. Pull upward on the knob and the mpu assembly should disconnect from where it is plugged into a second smaller circuit board (called the motherboard) that lays horizontally on the bottom of the machine. Just pull upward and firmly, the mpu should come right out, not a big deal. If you want to make it easier you can remove the coin tray and the hopper first. The coin tray lifts off and the coin hopper just slides right out of the machine, pull from the front outward. There are no bolts or wires to disconnect when doing any of this, but it is good to check for any machine wiring cables that may be in the area and get caught. Also, the coin hopper is a few pounds weight so be watching for that.

Once you get the mpu out of the machine you will see the battery that is mounted on it. Post a photo of your mpu board and we can go from there.

Here is a short video that may help you with getting familiar with this. The mpu is behind the hopper in this video, you can see the round black knob after the hopper is removed:

Here is an example of an S+ mpu board but there are some variations so your mpu may be slightly different. I have circled the battery. If you can solder or know someone that can then the battery is not hard to replace. Sometimes a previous owner has installed a battery holder and you can easily change out the battery. But normally it is soldered.

There may be a list of common error codes and their meaning inside your machine, sometimes it is a paper stuck on the inside of the main door. If not, here are a few places online that show them:

Here's another video that shows what to do.  They missed a minor step in getting past the error codes after they replaced the battery, but otherwise the video is pretty solid:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1u_FDk5UXg" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1u_FDk5UXg</a>

If you're able to do the soldering yourself, we can help you with whatever error codes might appear after the battery change.  There's no way you should pay $175 to get it fixed with the issue being a dead battery.
