worth picking up a model M machine?
« on: August 29, 2017, 05:00:50 PM »
i have a chance to get a model M machine, quite frankly i didnt know there was such a thing.  is it before model s? anyway, the price is right, but a bit of a drive. its showing a call attendant/tilt. the guy is old, thats all i can get out of him.  how does one key/clear it? what chips? also,  does it have a battery that leaks?  want to make sure its worth a drive, and a few bucks to get, and not end up a boat anchor.
it is kind of cool looking.
thanks

Posting some pictures would be good. At first, from the subject title I thought you meant a MILLS Model M.
There's a lot of information on the IGT model M on the old site.

I like those offset bars. :) That machine screams 80's. How much does he want for it? I'm sure there's a few members here that know the IGT M.

I have a M Slot, looking for another one, the battery might be low so you might need to buy one of those and then clear the error with the switch on the board, you don't need clear chips or anything like that. :dancing_2:

The M stood for mechanical as i think it was the last mechanical stopped reel slot that IGT made.

The S & S+ are basically the same machine. One with a Bill Validator, one without.
The S could not support the 16mhz board as some of the other logic chips on the motherboard don't exist and others are two slow, but that could be replaced.

The M used TTL logic and is not mechanical. The reel and game chips can be put into a S+ but not the other way around.

I believe they use the same battery style.

As to how to clear I am not sure, and I don't know if they use a button to step through menus etc like the S+'s have.

You can probably do a search on the old site www.newlifegames.net - you can't post there anymore but we kept the site alive as an archive.
