IGT S+ functions but pulling arm does not trigger a spin
« on: February 24, 2017, 02:32:40 PM »
I have an IGT S+ Double Wild Cherry stand up. It has worked well for a few years now and the other day I turned it on and dropped a quarter in it. The spin reel button lit up and I gave the arm a pull. The arm went to the end of the pull but did not trigger a spin.

The spin button did trigger the reels to spin.

When there is no credit on the machine the arm does lock in place until a credit is put in the machine.

Any advice on where to look?

I think there is a switch near the pull handle mechanism inside the machine that activates when the handle is pulled to spin the reels, similar to the spin pushbutton. Maybe a loose wire on that pull handle switch?

The handle being locked or unlocked is due to a solenoid that releases when you play a credit, that is a separate function from the handle spin switch.

There are three small, round, service holes on the side of the handle box. Try squirting a little WD40 into each hole. Something could be sticking.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

i could only find one wire that went up into the housing... I couldn't physically see it but could feel it was connected with my fingers.

I am starting to think its a wire or connection somewhere tho... i could press the switch that allows the arm to move and when its pulled down i could hear a slight click as it was at the bottom of the pull. Like a switch or circuit was activated.

I have attached a couple of pictures of the switch that the handle activates. If there is a bill acceptor in the machine then this will be difficult to see.

yes its defiantly cramped with the bill acceptor.. i put a little wd 40 and it didn't help much.

I just noticed its also giving me 2 credits for one coin.... Is there a way to do a factory reset on the machine?

WD-40 won't make the electrical connection better.  Either a wire has fallen off, or the switch has gone bad.  When you pull the arm down, once it reaches the bottom it should hit the microswitch that Ken from Ohio Gaming posted a couple of nice pictures of in Reply #4.  You will need to ensure that both wires are connected (you said you only felt one -- that's likely your issue) and that the arm is still activating the switch when pulled all the way down.  I'd suggest unplugging the machine, remove the hopper, and then see if you can stick your head in there enough to see the bottom of the mechanism to look for the missing/unhooked wire.

The only way that the machine should give you two credits per coin inserted is if you're using a chip that supports tokenization ("Montana credits"), and you have that enabled.  If your machine has always behaved that way, you'll just need to change some settings in the service menu.  We'll need to start by you telling us what SP (program) chip is in your machine.  You can determine that with the instructions found here: http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/SPSS.htm

If this is recent behavior, would you be able to post a video of that issue happening?  It would be extremely unusual for a machine with a typical SP chip to award two credits per coin inserted -- the casinos would have gone broke if that happened with any frequency.

sorry for the delay ... on the dbl credit thing .. i half figured it out. If i have credits on the machine and put on coin in .. it will get that credit and the machine will pull one from the credit side. Not sure why that happens.. it didn't before i replaced the MB battery.

I an attaching the video of the pull handle and the credit issue.

Thank you all again for all the valuable input.

Well I never did get the pull arm fixed... so I finally pulled the assembly out and all the wires were connected but I did see some red goop that ran down the inside of the assembly. Im not sure if this silicon type goop might have been the problem.

Anyone know what caused this?

picture attached.

It used to be a rubber handle bumper, some engineer didn't check the life span of that particular plastic.Remove the goop, it is not needed and did not cause your problem.

thanks for the fast reply.

Im currently looking to just replace the entire assembly. I'm thinking the switch when the lever is pulled down isn't working properly. Coins unlock the handle to pull but nothing sends the wheels spinning.

That microswitch is pretty easy to find and not expensive. You can test it's functionality with an ohm meter
