IGT s+ bill validator question

Once again I need to ask for help. I just bought this igt S+ slot machine that comes from a ferry boat between Amsterdam and New York. The problem is that the bill acceptor only takes American Dollars. My wish is for it to take Norwegian notes. I can see in the manual that the bill validator is connectet to the mother board on J6 connector and pin 2 here is "Bill acceptor in". I wonder if this is a standard puls input and if it's possible to use a smiley note reader to send 50ms pulses (credits) into the system. If possible, against what pin, maybe 4?

I used the oscilloscope between pin 4 and 6 on the J6 connector on the main board. This is what i got when I put a 1 dollar note in the bill acceptor. I guess this is what the note reader is sending when it accepts a 1 dollar note, or could it be the reply from the mashine that the note is accepted? I don't have any other american notes to test.

I have the SP1137 game chip, and I can see in the PSR that you can select the country code associated with the bill acceptor. I tryed to set it to Norwegian (27) resulting in that the bill acceptor will not accept the 1 dollar note.


I start to see the picture. The bill acceptor is sending a unique string of code representing the bill, and the microprosessor checks the string against what is enabled in the country code and replies to the note reader if the bill is accepted or not?





It shouldn't be to hard to reproduce the string using a microprosessor (arduino for example), if what I'm thinking here is correct.


It would be very interesting if anyone have any knowledge on what is sendt between note acceptor and mainboard. Anyone have a table with different country codes, different strings and what value it's representing in credits?

I think someone came up with a way to add credits with a little circuit board or some wiring. They connected it to an unused switch, like the Call Attendant or Cashout button. You might try searching back thru the NLG postings here or on the NLG archive site. Or maybe someone will remember more about it and say something.

You know Erik, I don't know a lot about different B/Vs, but you may need to change the software chip or have it re-flashed to accept your currency. I know certain versions only work for U.S. bills. Just a thought. Maybe all you need is the correct version.

David, it should be possible to change the software eprom on the bill acceptor as you say. But since 2007 slot machines has been illegale in Norway for comercial use, so it would be hard if not impossible to find this software. Next year we will get new notes as well, so if I got a working software, it would not be any good anyway. That's why I was looking at the smiley notereader (like nv4 for example), because it can be reprogrammed easily.


I know it is possible to use second hand puls based note readers and coin acceptors (like nri g13) on igt s+ machines, because i have seen it done on the ferrys between Norway and Denmark. See pictures:

Some people have developed protocol converters that will convert the protocol of a newer bill acceptor (or in your case, one that accepts Norwegian notes) to the IGT ID023 protocol to use with an S+ machine.

Thank you all for kind help. I researched more about the protocols. It seems like ID-024 protocol first appeared in S2000 slot? And for S+ and PE+ uses ID-022 and ID-023 protocol. This protocols uses 24V power and signalling.





I contacted Anton at agaslots and he was kind to help. They have a board converting puls or ID-003 protocol, to ID-022 or ID-023 protocol. It is the same board, but depending on what software you upload to the bord it does deifferent jobs. Price for this board is 100usd+shipping. I have ordered one board from him to test.





I also got in contact with a guy in Denmark that worked for the casino that had the IGT slot machines on the ferry boats (picture in the other post). He still had a IGT s+ with their interface board, nv-4 smiley note reader and nri g13 coin accaptor, and an old igt poker slot. I am driving to Danmark next weekend to collect his machines and what he has of parts. I will update with pictures and information when I know more.

The protocol converter board arrived. I have tried it with different game chips, games and machines. I only got it working with one game chip, the rest wouldn't work. I have tried different country codes and settings. My conclution is that the protocol converter board is not worth the money. It wouldn't even send the correct value, and it's slow at communicating.


The good news is that my trip to Denmark payed of. The S plus machine still had the communication board mounted, that communicates with external note readers and coin acceptors. What I have found out, reverse engineering the communication board, is that it's easier that ever known before to send credits to the system. I consider this a new topic and this topic closed.
