IGT slot machine not working
« on: May 29, 2016, 07:56:09 AM »
Could someone help me.
Just purchased an IGT 5times slot machine which worked when I purchased it. Upon setting it up it will not work. All lights light up but there is a 2 in the middle of winner paid. I have tried resetting which has not worked and the self test won't work. The 2 goes away when I shut the door but coins drop through. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to NLG. Did you put a coin in the comparitor so it will accept coins? There are lots of questions but let's start with the simple ones.

Ok when you turn the machine on does it do a "maiden spin" of the reels and the insert coin light come on when the door is closed and latched?

The reels spin but insert coin does not light up. The 2 is the only thing that lights up. When I close the door the 2 goes off and nothing is lit up

The 2 is a strange code. Can you post a picture of the front with the 2 showing and in side of the machine with the door open? The attachment tab is at the bottom of the reply page. Also when you close the door are you making sure the latch is all the way down? It must be for the machine to work.

It does accept bills and I have taken it out and nothing is stuck. I am attaching pictures. The 2 does flicker when I move the door. The door does close and latch all the way.

But it won't accept bills now? Is the door on the cash can cage completely shut? Oops too late.

One more thing. With the power off make sure the MPU is fully seated down. Might have jiggled in transport.

The door is completely shut. Coins drop through and it won't accept bills. This is how it looks when door is closed.

Here is what I would do next
Turn off machine and pull board from machine
Find the cmos chip ( next to the game chip)
Remove it carefully not to bend any prongs  and replace it after 10 seconds
Be careful not to invert the chip
Inset the board and turn on you should get a 61 code push the white self test button and you will get a 61-1
Shut all the doors and turn the reset key
After a few seconds the machine should recycle and hopefully work

On a machine that's new to you it's always good to check the notorious power supply connector on the motherboard, just in case it is flaky or overheated. That can make intermittent operation and weird failures. Just takes a minute to check it out. Transporting the machine can cause some things to get shaken and bounced around. Since it worked ok before you moved it I'd first look at things related to that. If you laid the machine on its side or back then loose coins, screws etc could have moved around and gotten under something that is shorting out. Check all fuses. The person you bought it from may be helpful, and he is local, you could give him a call and explain that when you got it home it isn't working, he may volunteer to come over and take a look.

Thanks everyone. I will try all the things suggested. The person I bought it from doesn't know much about the machine. I have checked for loose coins but will again. I will post again after trying everything

While you have the MPU out I would go ahead and check the voltage on the cmos battery soldered to the board. If I recall correctly, it's a 3.6v, 1/2 AA size battery. Your 2 code could be a 12 code on a very low battery. A low battery, 0.5v under normal, will keep the machine from working properly. Just a thought...

I would concur.... I think the 2 is part of a 12 and you have a bad LED panel.

When this was move, were there coins or tokens in the hopper? I had a Haywire in for a repair a few months back. they moved the machine with the coins still in the hopper. I found $18.00 in quarter around and behind the the MPU.. They got luck that it only blew the fuse.. I do like the idea about the battery being bad...
