Now, I'm very new to this sort of thing and I have had a thought of programming a brand new game card for an Alpha slot machine I have. To the best of my knowledge there is no environment for setting this up nor is there any way I could find how games are embedded into game cards. If there is a way to run a real operating system (debian-based? possibly mint or lubuntu on a physical hard drive rather than an OS card?) on an alpha machine, would that be able to work with the correct inputs needed from the machine itself, like the payline, credits, locks, sensors, and payout? If there's anything I know, the machine is running on a computer setup with a type of Linux embedded into the operating system card. If I am wrong about anything or there's no possible way for me to do this, feel free to let me know. As for what type of game, it would be coded in Unity if it can run a mint/lubuntu environment, otherwise I would probably be out of luck. Sorry if I'm just making a fool out of myself, I'm only curious as to what an Alpha can run.

A project like this is not impossible but it would require a thorough understanding of all the many analog input and output circuits on the slot machine, plus the communication protocols that are required for the mpu to interface with the digital devices. This would be a large undertaking for anyone that doesn't have the detailed information of the machine's hardware components. You might be able to "reverse-engineer" the game software presently in a machine to study and see how it operates, then modify it for your project.

I am interested in this project, too.

I am a MS stack, C# dev.  I own a couple of Alphas, as well.

If we can get a dev environment together, these machines will be even more collectable and flat out fun!!

Start a proj at GitHub or something, and send me an invitation.

This is a very cool idea.
