Silent Service Slot
« on: February 14, 2016, 05:51:40 PM »
Hi I am a newbie to slots and this board, I recently acquired a Uni Silent Service, it was throwing a door unlocked code when I got it.  I found it was just a loose lock mechanism in the door.  Was running great for a week.  Then it stopped working mid spin, the led's stopped working and reels stopped.  I checked the fuses and removed the noise filter in the power line.  I did not find an issue there,  I spoke to an old slot tech and he said it was almost certainly the power supply.  Is there anyone who works on them?

When you removed the line noise filter you did get the input power routed on past it to the main power transformer, right?

the noise filter is in the back of the machine in a small metal box attached to the inside back wall just above the coin hopper, I just cut the positive, negative and ground on the input side.  I then cut off the output positive and negative and ground,  reconnected to bypass the noise filter completely in the back of the machine.  Is there also a noise filter in the power supply?  after reconnection, the lights came on just as before but no game action.  I really need help here as I am an electronics dummy, I may be a danger to the machine http://newlifegames.com/nlg/Smileys/default/Tongue_Out.gif

Sounds like you bypassed the noise filter properly. I'm not good on the Universal machines so can't help, but there is a guy here that is, he'll probably be making some suggestions soon, let's give him some time to respond. If you can post any pictures of your machine from the outside and of the power supply it will probably be helpful.

In the meantime, all of the fuses that you checked will have a sticker nearby showing the voltage. If you have a meter you can verify the power supply voltage to the fuse is ok. If the fuse cap is one of the round black ones a lot of times there is a small hole in the fuse cap where you can put you meter probe.

Wrong noise filter. The silver noise filter mounted on back wall rarely causes a problem.
It is the one inside the power supply that is the problem child. A small black plastic noise filter.
Look at this link and scroll down a bit to see the noise filter. http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=177.0
