Is this Green or Red Dot Power Supply
« on: October 01, 2014, 08:26:01 AM »
Howdy All,
I'm trying to figure out if I have a Green or Red Dot Power Supply? From what I've read the small board on the cover is how you tell the difference. Is this a  Tower-3 board on the lid & a Green Dot due to the 3 white chips or how do you tell the difference from the Tower-3 & the Tower-4 on the red dot? Also when you switch from a green dot to a red dot is there a way to get the handle to energize? Manual says handle won't work because of external SSR on green dot setup?
Thanks

You have a red dot with Tower 4 handle board. That black thing on the tower board is the relay.

See this link to old site; http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=5712.msg59631#msg59631

Now, you may be able to use a yellow dot even though manual says no. Universal changed wiring in late 80's so yellow dot would work too. I'll look at your pics and see if I see the change.

Can't see what I'm looking for. What I am looking for is the white and gray wires from door belly light solenoid to power supply. If these two wires go into the black shrinkwrap you can use only Red or Green Dot PS. If wires go from door area to power supply outside of shrinkwrap than you can use yellow dot.
You could still make a small rewire and make a yellow dot work.
And if the the wires are outside of shrinkwrap still should verify where they land on PS before getting a yellow dot.

I managed to get a hold of a red dot & it works great & it fixed all my problems with the hopper running & the hum until it warmed up. I added a pic of the wires to the PS. Hopefully I can get the original power supply working correctly down the road. Like you initially told me, it's probably a CAP problem
This machine is a keeper & I leaned a lot
Thanks again  :applause:
