Pick this machine up as the price was right. Same O story lights up, no keys been sitting for years.
Hope to get the lock picked tomorrow to check out the interior.
Would like any comments / information about machines from Ireland.

Hey Dave, not a bad looking machine. Does it still have tag on side? Pic. Curious to see the inside once lock is pulled.

Jim, The tag is partly in tact kind of ripped off half way down. It only reads Bally Ireland 742.
Tag looks to be a decal made of shinny gold Mylar.

Billy, Will take a closer look at the glass for the word Ford automatics.
The very top payout schedule is plex-glass, it's in okay shape.

Machine seemed to find me.
Over holiday I gave a machines to my brother who lives in Mariposa, Ca.
Told him to be on the lookout for any Bally's 64 to early 80s.
Specially the low boy style. Got home Sunday checked Craigslist and the machine had been listed for 2 days.
Got in touch with the owner, made a deal for 2.5 and picked it up Monday afternoon near Pasadena.

Hope to pick the lock today, will post photos of the inside.

Well I'm not sure if picking a lock is an economical way to do it it seems to me the locksmith charges more money than a new lock if you buy them online they're usually under $10 with a key and it only takes about 3 minutes to drill 1 are you just trying to keep the original lock ??
It is a beautiful machine Dave congratulations on the low boy
I picked up to last week one is all original $0.25 the only trouble is I have a brand new Marquee for a $0.05

Here is my new 742A

If you go to my Facebook page I post a lot of pictures there the first of the year someone told me not to post so many pictures on NLG
So I created a Facebook page actually several and that's where I post most of my pictures now cell a lot of parts
there
And just have a whole lot of fun

yes I will be making a new glass but I'am not sure if Plexi would give me the same look as the original and if I can get the same mirrored lines of the glass version.. right now I"am having someone work on the print files but I will let you know when I get close to producing the replacement

Was trying to save the original lock. Its not in that good of shape the center core slot is really worn.
Might drill it out if I can't get it to open.

The reel glass has the Bally corp. on the top center.

Got the machine open. Drilled all seven pins out of the tubular lock. Took awhile, but didn't do any damage to the cam lever.

Machine was very tight with sludge, nothing moved. Got it freed up,
but #2 and 3 reel index arms would not engage.
Found the ratchet wheel on the slide lever was frozen, thus keeping the machine from kicking in those two index arms. Use liquid wrench on just about every moving part. All parts are moving very easy now.
Will lube and replace cord in the morning for its first run in 22 years. As I found $7.00 in quarters in the machine with the latest date being 1994.

Okay, machine is in running condition with a few minor problems.

Lubricated the Full Stroke Pawl as the handle would occasionally stay down.
Did a Reno adjustment to the L Shaped Stop Bracket as the reels were kicking early.
Replaced a reel index arm and roller. Previously had a machine screw doubled nutted through the roller.
Causing the 3rd reel to hang up when being removed.

Need to trace out the blue wire in the door. All 6v lights go off when the door opens half way.

Having a intermittent problem with the handle release circuit.
I'm suspecting the coin in counter or a broken wire in that area.
Coin in counter buzzes thus preventing the handle release to fully activate.

All minor issues, just happy to have the machine functioning.
Will post photos of the exterior cleaning progress as it happens.

Any suggestions on the minor problems will be appreciated.

Hi Dave. Sounds like you are making good progress. I attached a portion a of a generic 742 schematic. Not sure if it will help with Ireland model. I would pull meter temporarily and then go through circuit again, clean and check switch positions.

For the schematic. The machine looks to be total Bally.

Fixed the 6v lights, broken wires just inside the cabinet near the hinge.
Also found the wire that supplies the florescent tube hanging on by a strand.

Buzzing sound / handle release problem seems to be a weak connection at the beau plug, 99.9% sure.

Winner paid light staying on now. Somewhere between the linkage and the reset coil plunger its not latching properly.
Thus contacts staying closed.

Need to find a good Tubular Lock for the door, one that fits the cam linkage without any modifications.
Also looking for spiral wrap to cover the wires instead of tape.
Any links or Amazon info would be helpful.

Got my first natural 777s while testing the machine today.

Spent part of the day making a new top feature glass for the LowBoy.
Planning to add some color around the sevens.
Machine is running good, but still has a few issues.
Payout step up reset coil / plunger assembly doesn't completely reset.
Causing the winner paid light to stay on.

Hey Dave,

Nice work on topper. Looks really good.

I am guessing you already checked that linkage(s) dont have dried grease and all moves freely. Would it be worth pulling hopper, hook jumpers up to reset coil. Step up pay wipers a bunch and then use jumpers to reset and see if reset latches then. Could coil be bad? I would do what i could to see it in operation. Does it latch if you reset with finger?

Jim,

Leaned out the step up this morning.
Put the jumpers on directly from a transformer.
Pulled the plunger in real strong.
Linkage was clean, but very dry.
Just a spec of dried grease.
Re lubed with Vaseline, working like it should for now.
I'm thinking the Vaseline did the trick.
