Billval Stacker Box Open
« on: December 06, 2015, 05:32:59 PM »
I have a Bally Alpha that I cannot clear BillVal Stacker Box Open and BillVal Stacker Open. I checked all the wires from the switches to the board and all have continuity. I metered both switches and they test good. I then replaced the back plain from a working machine.
Any ideas as to where I should go from here??

I've had several MEI's with a bad cash can throw those errors.

Unbelievably!!
I spent the better part of today chasing this problem and all I had to do was swap the cash can!
Learn something new every day.

Thanks BigHammer

As a follow up to this, has anyone figured out what causes this to happen?
I took it apart today and cleaned and checked everything and all looks the same as a working box.

There's probably a peg or the spacing that actuates the little switch on the interface board that is just off.  Mei cash cans are pain in that way.

Try this-
Insert one of the bad cans. While the door is still open and holding in the cherry switch, lift up on the front bottom of the can by sticking a couple of fingers or a decent sized flat screwdriver underneath the front bottom of the can and applying upward pressure. Hold it there for 5-10 seconds to see if the billval cycles. Let us know what happens.

Put the bad can in and pried up on the front of can and the error cleared. If I pried on the left or right nothing happened, but if I pried on the center it cleared. It took a moderated amount of pressure to get it to clear. I will look closer later today.

If you look at the mei interface board, there is an actuator arm that makes the switch work.  The cash can is supposed to raise the actuator arm high enough to close the switch. My guess is that it is not going high enough, so if you "fill" the gap where the switch is with something to raise it higher, it might fix the can issue.

Your correct Rick. I messed with it this morning and by adding a small piece of duct tape to the top of the can the problem is cured. My guess is that they are in and out so many times at the casino they wear just a little so it doesn't trigger the switch.

Here's a picture. It doesn't  take much to make the switch work!

I was thinking that you could also bend the switch actuator a bit more so that it sits lower, making the cash can close the switch without having the unsightly duct tape.

The test I had you perform is a sure-fire way of testing a worn out can. The can is actually "held up" in place by the channels on the inside top left and right of the housing bracket. If you look inside with the can removed, you will see a (black if I remember correctly) track on each inner side of the housing along with a spring on each side with white or clear poly tubing slipped over it. The part on the the can that rides in that track is worn causing the can to sit too low. Adjust the arms on the limit switches to compensate and you should be good to go.

That's all it was. Adjusted the switch a slight amount and everything works great!

Another thing to check if the yellow light is lit is the two lenses on the top of the can in the front corners. If they become scratched or damaged, the beam of light that verifies that the pusher is in the home position can't pass through. This will cause the BA to think there is a bill jam.

Hello I am new to the site.  I am having the same issue with billval stacker open error.  I just got my slot machine and when I first removed my cash can I got this error.  I was told I needed a clear chip to clear the error, but I believe it is an actual cash can problem.  Anyone that can help me a little bit.  I am brand new with Slot Machines so any help would be appreciated.  I have tried the screwdriver and tape but that has not worked.  I am not sure what switches that are being talked about.

Thank you in advance for the help
