MAV500 MK6 set/clear chip issue
« on: June 05, 2017, 06:40:39 AM »
So I am perplexed...

I have been reading about Aristocrat MK6 clear/set procedures for hours.  It doesn’t appear to be difficult but I am having issues.

I have 3 different .pdf instructions [see attachments] to follow but I have failed to even get started.  No matter what I do I get a message on my screen that reads “NO SIGNAL INPUT”.

I can’t find any mention in the archives so anyone have an idea?

Hmmm...

The third .pdf file I am following "MK 6 Aristocrat USA Set up Tutorial" is too large to attach.

It might be in the NLG File System...

FYi…

I have a Mark 6 main board, not a XP board.

I have multiple sets of different set chips, I started with 06.03.04 but get the same results no matter the version.

My board came with “Easter Island” installed and working.  My goal is/was to install “Buffalo”.

I had the 4 game chips on the main board and the system chips on the system board, or chip extender board.  I put my 06.03.04 chips in the correct spot in the correct orientation on the system board and fire up the cabinet and can’t get past the “NO SIGNAL INPUT” screen.

I have tried different set chip versions.  I have tried the chips on the main board. I have tried the chips on the system/extender board.  I get the same results, "NO SIGNAL INPUT'.

If I install the game chips on the main board and the original system chips on the system board I can get either the “Easter Island” to play or the “Buffalo” game on screen but get the message that I need to clear the RAM.

I went as far as to short out the capacitors C269 C267 C266 C262 and now I get the RAM clear message on both game chips sets.

The main board on these Aristocrats are a BiTcH to get removed and installed.  Someone before me [Primitive Pete] broke off both of the removal levers on the boards.  I’m trying to practice a little patience.

So what am I missing???

Any bent pins on that riser board?  Positive those chips are known working? (Long shot but you never know).  Tried a different riser board?

Thanks for the suggestions...

I have checked and double checked all the pins on all the boards and eproms and everything looks good...

My SET chips could be suspect!  That was my first thought too.  I do have many different versions of Aristocrat SET chips and have tried a few different versions but get the same results.  The thought had crossed my mind that I needed something other than a SET chip but none of my instructions point me in that direction.  Is there a way to check my chips via an eprom programmer and a computer?  Maybe I need to break down and buy some new SET chips?

I do not have another riser board withing reach.  I might need to locate one just to try something different?

If you can, grab a set of 6.03.10, that'll cover everything Mk6 related.

Only way I check mine if needed is to put them on a kobetron.  If it comes up with a signature it's good, if not then they're toast.  I'm really not sure  how you'd do it in a home setting.  Do the eeproms have labels on them, and if not were they exposed long term to flurescent lighting?

I didn't even know what a Kobetron was, in a casino environment it looks like a necessary tool.

My set chips are not labeled [window is exposed] but are suppose to be fresh?  I'll have to locate a different supplier and start over to eliminate that being the problem or not...

Uh oh, yeah if the window isn't covered up and they get a dose of UV light then they're probably wiped.  If you get another set put some electrical tape over that window!

I got a new set of clear/set chips and I was surprised to get to the screen I expected...

So...I had a bad set of chips.

Once I got over that hurdle it was simple to set up.  I couldn't have done it without the information stored in the NLG archives and jonm287 steering me in the correct direction.

Thank you!!!
