There was one for the 1492 and two for the 1493 13" vs 17" size tubes.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Does anyone know what the extra pin does?

Thanks for the comparison pics!

Badbaud might.. I'm just a self taught novice, he's a repair tech.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

It looks like a ground. Ohm the pin hole to ground and see if it is connected to ground.

I'm not at the shop right now but the 93 uses something like a 1561....

Thanks badbaud—you were close: the Ceronix 1493 uses a 1516 flyback.

My friend says: the pin hole on board is connected to a 2.2k resistor, then to other electronics. Page 23 of https://www.ceronix.com/dlfiles/manuals/1493_SVCMAN.pdf

I believe trace 466 is where the pin goes. But the resistor it shows that's connected is 470ohm, not 2.2k—so something's weird.

There's another rabbit-hole aspect: the schematic calls for a Meritron T-8090B flyback, but the NOS flybacks that Ceronix sent are T-8090A—they're labeled as a 1516 flyback and the item description says Flyback Transformer 31Khz #T-8090, no mention of A or B. (The old flyback might be a Hitachi.)

Epilogue: monitor fixed! :applause:

We purchased a NOS CPT1516 flyback from Ceronix, which was a Meritron 8090B.

My friend says:

Some of the Ceronix 1493 VGA models were shipped with a flyback that did not have an internal capacitor—which is what the extra pin is connected to. On these units, resistor 465 (480ohm 1/2W) was not needed and also not installed. I missed this originally as there is solder in the attach points from the original reflow, but no component was installed when looking from the other side.

Installing a 10-cent resistor from a surplus store solved the problem and the monitor looks great now.

Here's what it looks like (yes, I bought another game while awaiting it getting fixed): https://youtu.be/rZwasqK63hM
