Battery on MPU
« on: September 15, 2015, 12:36:11 AM »
The two Universal machines I have are going on 20 +/- years old and I've been wondering about this for some time...the batteries are likely the originals or were replaced no latter than 2000 when the two games I have were pulled from floor use.

I haven't received the low voltage error and the machines hold the credit history just fine even if they are powered off for a week or two..should I have the battery on the MPU boards replaced? if they leak I've head horror stories about ruining the board, etc...

I'm not good at soldering (hey, I'll admit it! lol) and would rather not screw the boards up, anyone on NLG offer board repair to have the old batteries removed and new ones soldered in place? probably cost $30 round trip in shipping and parts/labor, seems better than taking a risk and possibly screwing up the board.

With that being said, I forget how the heck you remove the MPU...if memory serves me right you pull the coin tray, hopper, and take out the screws and the "cage" around the MPU swivels away...I think the board pull straight up? or out?

anyway, thoughts on this? should the batteries be replaced based on age??

changing the battery should really be done.  These boards are so hard to find and that battery could start to leak any day.  I this is an ultra the battery is really easy to change.   If you are not comfortable with it one of the battery shops might even do it.    Do you happen to be in SE Michigan?  I will change it for you.
