A few months back I got my three 13 inch 3802 Gamekings fully functional after sitting in storage for several years.  Everything on each machine worked flawlessly.  Have not used two of the machines for a few months now.  Getting ready for family to arrive for thanksgiving I decided to fire them up to be sure all was OK.  One machine is giving me fits.

It started with a low battery requiring a machine reset.  I later discovered that the lower mount was disconnected from the main board.  I re-soldered it and the low battery problem disappeared.  Go figure.

Put the board back in thinking I could finish the rest process and it now gets hung on coin jam sensor disconnected and Door Open M error.

Can't get through the reset because it thinks the door is open.  Even tried re-calibrating the screen but won't get past the Ambient temp check because the thing thinks the door is open.

I replaced the coin comparitor, the door mount bracket for the coin comparitor, door wire harness.  I can't locate a jam sensor...is that part of the coin comparitor?  I also swapped the door open sensor with one from a working machine.  None of the errors went away.

Where do I start with the troubleshooting?  I'm at a loss.

Have you tried swapping MPU boards from one of the other machines?  If you swap it along with the backplane eeprom then you won't lose your settings between the machines.  With 3902 boards Coin-in Jam and Meter's disconnected often indicates a bad MPU board, it may also for 3802's.

That might make some sense.  I wonder if I damaged the board when I soldered the base of the battery on.  Dang it.  Might be a good reason to finally upgrade to a 3902 board.

I'll swap the boards tonight and see what happens.

So for future reference, if anyone gets the above listed symptoms, check to be sure the upper board tray (game controls, IO?) is properly seated into the backplane.  I installed the new 3902 board and still had the original errors.  I then pulled that upper board tray and noticed not much resistance.  Noticed the pins on both sides of the connector were slightly bent, not allowing the connector to fully seat.  I have to assume that when I swapped the 3802 board with a known good 3802 board I must have somehow accidentally temporarily seated that connector enough to make things work for a minute.

The machine is up and running now and I have a spare 3802 board in case that ever becomes a problem again.

Thanks for the follow up Nate.  Yes, the upper board tray is the I/O card tray on 13" Game Kings and older 19" Game Kings too.  It controls the switch inputs, light outputs, hopper, meters, coin handling, etc.  With the 3902 board you can use SIMM based poker software or put I game software on it too if you'd like.

Tilt, that was the reason I was interested in switching to a 3902 board several months ago.  Now I can try some new software to spice things up.

For now I just want to know how my battery became disconnected from the main board and how the pins on the I/O card tray got bent while the machine was not being used...supposedly.  17 year old kid in the house who recently learned how to repair small electronics equipment.  hmmmmm...  I'll have to ask some more pointed questions of him.  He sat there and watched me diagnose this thing before I bought the new board.

It's all good though as long as he is learning the trade, right?
