question about jims coin optic test
« on: February 16, 2017, 09:44:23 AM »
i tried jims coin optic test on a game im having trouble with, wont accept a coin. the comparator rake doesnt pull in, and shimming the rake to direct coins into the optics doesnt help. they go thru, but no credits.  .  in the test, i get no response in 10_1. it stays on 1   . test 11_1 and 12-_1 work fine, toggling 1-0 .  this is with a brand new optic unit.    i did notice the coin guide is marked 5 cents. i'll post a pic with a quarter in it.  the game had quarters in in when i got it, and the guy said he was using quarters.  looking at the guide with a quarter in it, it looks like it should work, but am i wrong and the 25 cent guide will solve this? i get no coin errors, and it takes bills.

i read other posts about removing Q4 on the optic board. i did that on the orig board, and got an immediate code 21.  that would be expected i guess, no q4 would make it think it was blocked.  well, i tried :).  i'll  replace Q4.   i post the pic in a reply, it seems to choke when i attach a pic, even though i shrunk it to 224k

thanks much

i did the test again with narrower and wider sticks, same deal 10_1 doesnt chance, stuck on 1. if i unplug the optics, then it goes to zero. plug in, back to one.

FWIW, I have an S+ that the 10-1 never changes in the optics test, but it still accepts coins and posts credits properly, so I've never messed with it.
