10 mhz vs 16 mhz - what purpose or advantage of the 16?
« on: March 22, 2017, 08:48:25 AM »
I seem to run into more problems using the 16mhz boards - namely - dbv200 - 16 won't work while 10 work fine.  What is the purpose of the 16?

The 16 mhz boards were used in the last batch of S+.  It counts up the credits faster, however, they have an annoying hum white noise as it plays. I don't use my 16mhz boards, I use the 10's.  I think some barcrest S+ required the 16mhz boards, but I'm not 100% sure on that.  Just use the 10's if you have them.

The 16MHz boards were made later in the run of S+ machines.  It could have been as simple as that the 10MHz crystals were getting to be harder to find as technology improved, or that IGT wanted to use a slightly more powerful processor.

Remember when using a 16MHz board, you must use a SP chip that supports 16MHz board.  Also, most 16MHz SP chips are ID023 for the bill validator -- make sure your DBV-200 is set to ID023.

You also need to make sure your eproms as 120ns or faster, otherwise you will have all kinds of issues.

reopening this thread - I still cannot get 16mhz boards to work with bv - I am now trying wba13ss - using 3.75-03I eprom -  setup is for id023.
game will work with a 10mhz board and the wba13 with the 3.75 eprom
changing the board to 16mhz using sp1272 and type 0 reel - bills do not accept (held for a few seconds then rejected).
I have 4 16mhz boards doing the same thing.
I want to use up some of my 16mhz boards - hence this post.
