Cleanup and lubrications questions
« on: November 22, 2016, 11:06:06 AM »
Now that I have repaired a few of these EM it’s apparent that the major problem is dried up grease.  I’ve been removing the reels from the reel mech. and using a spray degreaser to remove old grease.  I’ve then been using WD40 as a lubricant.  I have not been disassembling the reel mech. Questions:
#1.   is the spray degreaser and WD40 ok or should I be using something else?[/size]
#2.  Do I need to actually disassemble the reel mech?

Thanks,
Bob

Machine must be warm warm warm first.
I've found a long oil spout and a few drops in each bearing point will loosen grease & get it running again.

WD40 is NOT a lubricant! It will do more damage in the long run than good.
Get a better oil like "3 In One" machine oil or better.

When i worked casinos i would overhaul a machine a day, which included teardown, wiring removal, dunk tank, spray with hot water, airdry, lube & reassemble. We used brown axle grease with light oil mixed in, & it worked very well.
When you hit the old grease with a spout oiler, it seems to 'rehydrate' the grease. If you don't want to do a teardown, this method of adding oil may work out well for you.
Of course you can clean off excess grease to make it look nice....

I found this lubrication guide in a manual I have.  I've also included the Covers and Table of Contents, if there's something you see you need just let me know.
thanks
