IGT Slant Extra coin
« on: November 29, 2016, 08:56:55 AM »
I have recently gotten my IGT S+Slant working and when ever it pays out it always spits one extra coin which makes it tilt. It is an easy fix I just open and close the lid and the error clears. but how can i keep it from doing it all together.
Thanks for any ideas,
Zach

Most likely it is the brake on the hopper is bad and allowing the extra coin to fall thru

Zach check to make sure the spring isn't broken on the hopper brake. And with the water issue you had, you might use some WD 40 on the brake if it is sticky.

So im not a home right now but where abouts is the brake? is it down in the hopper or is it up by where the coins fall out?

Here's a good video on slot machine coin hoppers and their repair of common problems:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebKS1l6Yva4

When the hopper motor is turned on to payout coins the coins are counted one by one by the mpu board. There is a coin counter mechanism mounted somewhere on the coin hopper in the coins path as it exits the machine. When the correct number of coins has been paid out the hopper motor is turned off, but because it was spinning it will still want to turn for a little bit even with power removed. So they put a small braking part on the motor, usually near the motor shaft on the backside of the hopper. The brake is pulled out of the way when the motor is running but as soon as the motor is turned off the brake moves to lock the motor shaft to quickly stop it from turning. The brake usually will have a spring, that spring might be broken or missing. Or if it is the type of brake that has locking teeth they may be broken off.

Here is an example of one type of coin hopper brake, but it may not be like the one you have:
