IGT Double Diamond S Battery replacement advice
« on: December 06, 2016, 09:11:26 PM »
So I have identified my new machine as an S double diamond

I am getting a 12 meaning low battery. I pulled the board and the battery only has 4.8 Mv  so I obviously need a new battery.

Here is my question(s)

The current battery is soldered in place.

Can I use a cr2032 button battery in a holder?

Should I go ahead and even put in a battery holder?

Should I solder in a 3.6V standard http://www.centralvalleyslots.com/slot-machine-battery--36v-lithium-for-bally-and-i36.html

When I order the battery should I anticipate needing a reset and clear chip? Should I order that at the same time?

The machine doesn't have a bill validator. Here is the machine   http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=13900.0

Ok any advise?  Help me here folks?

Thanx in advance as always

Post a picture of your MPU.  I suspect you have an early model S+ not an S.  But your pictures on the other thread did not show the entire cabinet where the mpu board is.  Post a photo of your mpu board and we will be able to tell for sure what you have.  If it is an early model S+ with no validator, you don't need a set or clear chip.  You just clear the errors.

A CR2032 does not provide enough current to power the RAM for very long. You should take the time to solder in the proper 3.6V LiIon battery.
Before you buy a set or clear chip try just plugging the board in and follow the re-initialization procedure.
Most of the critical data is stored on the back-plane board EEPROM and 61 then 61-1 close door, turn jackpot reset key usually gets the machine up and running.

BTW All Electronics sells those 3.6V 1/2 AA Lithium batteries with leads for $3.50 each.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

They make battery holders for the 3.6 volt cylinder batteries, also known as a 1/2 AA style battery. If you wanted to you can solder one of those battery holders to the board, then easily install a 3.6 volt battery. They make the 3.6 volt batteries with and without solder leads. These 3.6 volt lithium batteries last a pretty good while, so you may be happy just replacing the dead battery by soldering in a new one with leads and not even use a battery holder. Be sure to watch where the + end of the battery connects.

The type of connectors on the edge of your mpu board (circled in your photo below) make me think this is an IGT S machine, not an S+. But the experts here will say for sure.

It is a S slot and not a S+.
I have never seen or used a clear chip on those boards. Just replace the battery, you will see a 61 upon power up.
Press and hold the test button for a couple of seconds then close the door and the reels will spin and the game is up and running.
