Now onto the bill validator.  This is what symptoms I have:


1.  no initial setup when machine first powers on
2.  no "insert bill" light
3.  does not accept any bills either
4.  BV seems to perform some sort of function when the toggle switch on the side is flipped to the test position


I am unfamiliar with this model so I have posted some pics to help you guys out.  Not sure if its worth trying to fix as opposed to getting a standard one.

What do you mean by that?


I'm not terribly familiar with the Mars/MEI bill validators, but those are newer than most of the validators found in an S+, so you should be good with that -- it may accept a larger variety of newer bills than the JCM DBV or WBA validators typically found in S+ games.

Is your bill validator enabled in the machine?  As I mentioned in my previous post (Reply #18), you need a SET chip and need to follow the procedure linked in that post to enable the validator.  If it isn't enabled, the light won't come on and it won't attempt to accept a bill.

In other words, when I turn my other machines on, the bill validator comes on and makes a series of noises before its ready to accept bills.  This one does not do anything.  The BV is also enabled with set chip.

as with any bill unit they all have to have a cash can inserted for the unit to start up. this unit uses a plastic pivot rod in the back of the unit. you will see it if you remove the cash can, sometimes it breaks(because its plastic)  check this out.

Checked the plastic rod.  Its intact and moves the rollers into the cam on the back of the BV.  I noticed when I turn the machine on, I can see red lights flickering inside the BV's bill slot, then one of the motors turns for about a half second, and thats all it does.  let me know if you need some more picks of other things, Id be happy to post them.

Update:  I went ahead and double checked the bv setting with the set chip and it is on 9-1 with denom set to 5 (nickels).  Also, when I switch the 3 position switch on the bottom right from normal operating mode to "calibrate on startup", it seems to cycle completely with a pretty loud bang at the end of cycle.  Then, I toggle the switch to the test mode (hold and release) and it flashes the red light inside periodically while turning the feed belts for about 0.5 seconds every 1 second or so (almost like a pulse).  With the door open, I can then insert a bill resulting in a 1 time normal function with the bill making it into the cash box like normal.  I can toggle the test mode as many times as I want and it seems to work fine, but as soon as I close the door with the switch in either normal op or calibrate on startup, the insert bill light is off and no function from bv.  Hope this analysis helps you guys.

you can run input test # 27_1   this should turn on the bezel lamps  and allow a bill to be inserted. your can check the bezel bulbs in the denom lamp panel. 

this will also test the  signal to the bv.   you can pull out the transport unit, flip it over and see if the plcc chip is inserted properly and see if it has S+ on it ?

the only other issue is to follow the wiring from the back of the bv to the power supply, through the power supply to the plug, and down to the mother board connector.  one area  is the power supply, besides applying power to the bv, it also has the I/O board in it , it is the board that transfers data to and from the bv to the cpu.

Not sure how to get to 27_1 as only 27_0 is the only option that shows up in the list of input tests.  I checked the chip and harnesses, chip says s+ and is installed correctly and all harnesses seem to be okay.  I did toggle the test switch on the side of the bv and then returned it to normal mode.  After that it ran the test sequence and the "insert bills" light came on for the first time.  So, I know the lights are good, and I know Im getting power to the bv due to the test mode and the pre-mentioned functions in my earlier post.

Problem Solved!!  I did some research and stumbled onto another BV thread when I say "therockinelvis" mention a switch on the inside of the door by the hinge.  I flipped it the other way and now its working great!!  Thanks to everyone!!

Ah, that crazy mystery switch. Will never know why it was put there. Glad you found that post. Then again had we seen a picture of the inside door we might have known a while ago. Glad it is working now.
