Title: Help for a Jackpot 777
Post by: LongShot on December 07, 2017, 02:46:12 PM
I recently got a Universal Jackpot 7 machine (y90) that was in bad condition. It is a 3 reel with a 8116-A2 mpu and a 8116-SDS3 sub board. I have managed to get it mostly working except for coin track.  It has cc-16-d.100 coin comparitor. It originally had only one wire going to the comparitor, I wired it to a yellow and yellow/blk stripe which should be 24v and ground and now the red LED is on.  The coin reject gate and the coin direction gate does not work.  If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.  Also if anyone has a manual for it, it really would help.

Can you post a photo of the coin comparitor showing the wiring?

Hi and Thank you.

I see in your pic that your connected to the wrong power source. If my memory serves me correct those yellow pairs are 24VAC, not DC. They are there if the machine had electronic starters for the fluorescent lighting which they don't, they have ballasts. So yellow wires not used.

You must connect to that other connector with blue/purple/black wires. The ground from the comparator (black) connects to the BLUE and the yellow from the comparator connects to the middle wire (purple). The black wire next to the purple is not used.

What happens is this; When the door Cherry switch (white pushbutton) senses the door is open OR the door lock optic senses the door is not locked the 8116 cpu disconnects the ground (blue wire) from the comparator and it shuts off. When both the door is closed and locked the ground is active and the comparator is powered up.

To test comparator with door open you need to blind the lock optic (I use elect. tape) and pull out the cherry switch button (just pull it outward and it will stay out about a 1/2" simulating a closed door) You should now see the red LED on the CC-16 light up.
Betcha it works now!

A little more, the 8116 cpu also shuts off the ground to comparator when max coins have been inserted. Jackpot 777 is a 4 coin machine if I'm not mistaken so the 5th coin inserted and thereafter should be rejected by the powered down comparator.
Sometimes when coins are entered too fast that 5th coin will be accepted and is counted to the next game. Two extra coins that make it past the comparator cause a TILT.

Thank you for your help, I think I have burned out coil on the back of the comparator.  Would you happen to know where I can get one? I also need a optical sensor (Omron ee-sm3) for one of the reels.

I have little to no parts, not sure where anymore to get them. CC-16 24vdc were very common, should be able to find one.

I do not remember anyone ever needing a reel optic. Not that they can't fail.
If you have reel tilting on a bad optic, try switching the reel wire connector in front and see if the problem stays or moves with the connector. If it moves with the connector it could be the 8116 mpu that has the problem.

One other thing. Universal had a metal ID tag the included a spot for Model number but not one for manufacture year. And they never really had a model number so machines pre 1990 had nothing stamped for model number. In 1990 the Nevada Gaming Commission required all machines to have a year of manufacture listed on each machine. So Universal stamped Y-90 where it says model number. It is really just year of manufacture.
