Hello

im trying to help a friend work on his slot machine.

Im not sure what it is. Some one told me it is a bally alpha 9000 and some say a bally quick hit.

he brought it over to me to look at..

He said it worked before and it just quit working.

it turns on and the top lights up and the bottom lights up,

all the buttons are lite up.

the lcd stays black..

when i first power it up the lcd says VGA IN then it goes to no signal and black screen.

i have checked the power supplys up by the power switches and the voltage are 12v 5.4v 24.7v and all the green lights are lite up green.

i have pluged my computer lcd monitor in to it to check to see if it was bad and it comes up with the same thing.

I have checked all the plugs on the boards and unpluged them and repluged them back in and did the same with mpu board and power supplys.

Any one have any new things i can try???

Hi Mark Can you get a picture on the LCD by hooking a laptop to it?? Do you have a spare set of power supplies you can use in it?? Lots of Alpha experts on here. Check batteries on MPU and backplane. The slot may need CLEARED and Setup again. I have found most problems with these slots go back to bad power supplies. For some reason they go out a lot on these. Caps on the slot power supply are really unrated voltage wise. Good luck Ted

I dont have spare power supplys for this model.

The 2 round batterys on the MPU board both read 2.7v

Did not check the one on the backplane. i will check that also.

I will check into hooking up a laptop to it.

I would change all three batteries. Also this is progressive and if you have not set one up before it may give you problems. There are several good videos on here on setting these up. Check to see if monitor is working OK first by hooking it to a laptop. Remember game CF card goes in the bottom slot on MPU and OS or CLEAR card go in the top slot. Remove the top OS card and put in the appropriate CLEAR card to see if it brings up a NVRAM clear screen. I am sure there are others on here with suggestions. I am still thinking the power supplies may be the problem.

I thought power supplys also at first. But all the readings i get from testing them look good.. 24v 12v 5v

I hooked up my laptop to the lcd screen and it works. So i know the lcd is good.

no i have never worked on one of these before.. my first alpha machine.

if it needs cleared i will have to buy some clear cards because i dont have these.

well i pulled the battery off the back plane and it reading 3.0v

i pulled the 2 off the mpu board and get 3.0v on both batterys.

now im thinking it might need to be cleared.. but would it tell you on the lcd monitor that it need to be cleared?

like other machines do... i dont know mabey im wrong.. never worked on these machines before..

or do you think one of the system or game cards went bad and wont let it boot up.....

on the power supply in the cage where the mpu is there is a power supply.. I cant check v on that because it has to be pluged in to the system to power.. Do you tihnk that power supply maybe out???

Well if you pulled the batteries it will have to.be cleared and programed. What os card is it using?? You will need a clear card to match it

I just figured it out. It was the power supply in side where the Mpu is.. I pulled it out and plugged in a computer power supply. And it booted up through doss mode then it say finding game manager then the screen goes black...

To work on these you do need to have the appropriate clear cf which is dictated by your os as prev. stated. Once you pull the batteries esp. backplane it has to be cleared. Being you do not have a dual vid. card it generates vid. from mpu. Not condeming mpu until you do a clear and set up. If you have no vid. once clear installed then you have a prob. Also status lights on mpu can help, green,red,combo of those,amber etc. do you hear any beeps?. Check the vid. cable also. Let us know. -B.

If that is the case and you now have vid. the 256,512 and 1-gig non-expandable all use the "long" pwr supply inside the mpu, the 1-gig/2-gig expandable all use the shorter one. Prob cap or caps if you are handy you could figure it out or just get another one-your option, You still need a clear cf.

It is a long one.. I will open up and check the caps and rebuild it... yes I do need a clear card now.

there are 4 small caps that go bad on mpu power supply i'll try to find my notes we rebuilt 2 r 3 of them worse part is getting board out of mpu p/s to replace those caps also those p/s are cheap on ebay at times under 20 bucks

I use a 312 clear with an 807 BIOS and 317 OS?? Docs attached.

Ok, I may be mistaken. -Sorry as on the a-1 stuff I just use 336 stuff with a 335 clear. If it works it works. Without looking back on the stuff I at times forget, Thanks for correcting me.
