Bad Ticker
« on: June 27, 2016, 06:22:15 PM »
I'm a bit stuck, I have a Cham2+ and I did set up from the how-to for the S+. Put together the cables from controller to machine, and the programming cable. PSP with DosBox etc... PC to controller communicate fine, I programmed the progressive amount. comes up on display, but won't count. I have messed with settings till I'm blue in the face, and returned to basic settings numerous times nothing I have tried works :banghead:
Machine (16mhz with 1309 game chip) is set to Primary-lvl link. Using a set 88
JP settings
Base=7200
curr= 7200
limit= 100,000
Inc = 1 cent.
Rest left alone.

Cables from the chamII+ to j12 on your S+
J12 pin 2 to chamII+ j7 pin11 (serial return)
J12 pin 3 to chamII+ j7 pin 13 (gnd)
J12 pin 4 to chamII+ j7 pin 3 (machine input 1)
Have you got this correctly installed? Most problems of this type caused by wires connected to wrong pins on chamII+

PSP settings:   in jackpot programming f4 should be set to M-08 (sometimes M-05 for s+) and F8 should be set to MS08
Have F3 set to sngl

Are they set there. Sorry for choppy answer I'm on my cell.

Check on the cable, rechecked several times just in case. also made sure there was continuity.  F4 and F8 confirm set on 08. F3 on Single I will try 05 just in case.

Post pictures of j12 and j7 plugs .
If you unplug j12 and game still plays something not set up correctly on your S+ in the progressive area.
If game says progressive link down or some error message comes up then it is set up correctly.

Crash I gave you some bad information. I guess S+ machines will play whether or not the progressive controller is hooked up.  (S2000 will not). So I guess we are back to checking the settings on the PSP. So I guess start from each screen what settings you have. The connections appear to be correct (later found to be incorrect on the S+). I know chamII+ real well but not so much S+ so maybe someone else can chime in. Maybe Kevin or Jay.

The first thing I would check is your increment - this is done in percentages. Not 1cent. Its likely you have this as 1%
I have mine set to be 4% that means I advance 1penny for every quarter played.

At 1% you would need to play 4 quarters for it to go up 1penny.
Depending on your PSP currency settings you might not even be displaying cents.
So that would mean you need to play 100 dollars for it to go up by 1 dollar before you see anything on the meter.

On the S+ mother board there are 4 pins for the progressive connector.
They are Coin In, Ground, Data In and unused.
How the S+ increments is a very quick momentary short between Coin In and ground.

Remove your connector from this 4 pin interface.
Using a paperclip or other jumper quickly short the Coin-in to ground on your harness.
Your progressive should advance. Assuming you are displaying cents and you short it enough times.

IF shorting it gets your meter to increment then you know that parts working.
In which case you have not got the progressive turned on in the Game Chip settings.

I set the increment high, and shorted the coin and ground. Id did increment, and threw a c51 code repeated several times it would go up then C51.
So that means back to the machine  :banghead:

Now that you have it increment ing. Try it connected to the machine.
Do you have the PAR for your game chip ?
This would tell you what setting is right to enable the progressive ?

Here are the pics of the cable connections

Unless the sample picture from years ago is wrong, it looks like your connection to the S+ motherboard is on the wrong pins.  See this picture (note it's the three pins starting on the left of the connector):

I think what happen was I went by numbers on connector instead of machine which turned out wrong. Double checked wiring several times but still missed it lol.
 :thank_you: again everyone, can finally put machine back together, and ready for the game room

Post a picture of the machine when you are done.
Next thing you can do with the chamII+ is also put a scrolling message along with the jackpot.
Also if you haven't done so already a would suggest replacing the rechargeable battery on the ChamII so you don't lose the programming. Before I replaced my battery on the ChamII the programming would only stay for about two weeks before it would lose it's memory. Now I can leave them off for over a month without having to worry about memory loss.
Great job!

Your comments are all very kind.  Sometimes it just takes a fresh set of eyes to look at a problem and see what the issue is.  Glad it was that simple and that I was able to help.  :yes:
