And Then...

And Then…
Bally s5500 Black and White Double Jackpot
Got the coin spinner thing out. It had two broken wires and a jammed quarter. I fixed that and reinstalled. I have another loose wire just laying around, I’ll chase that down. I did take the coin comparator out reattached the spring on the back put a quarter in it. Reinstalled and the green light still doesn’t come on. Any suggestions’? I don’t have a key for the reset lock, but can you short across the connection without messing stuff up?

The green light only comes on with the door closed, sorta opposite of a refrigerator light.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

That make perfect sense  those slot gnomes need some light to take your money.  LOL

If the light only comes on when the door is closed How do you know if it is working?

This is my first machine to fix. I'm learning more and more every day.

I do know that the little flapper deal that is supposed to have a weight, doesn't.

I think it is weighted for what ever coin or token you are going to use.

Sense I'm a 25 cent machine then I would need a weight for that coin, right?

That weight slows down the coin so the comparator can read the size, ??

I guess if that is right then I need a weight. Where should I start looking? Can you just buy that part  or do you have to buy a whole mechanism?

Brett

Thanks in advance for the help.

You don't need the weigh tor the small plastic arm for home use.

That pivot arm and weight that is at the top part of the coin comparitor is to prevent someone from "speed inserting" a bunch of coins. Like Badbaud said, for use at home it isn't needed. You are right about the weight, it is different sizes depending on the coin being used.

The wires on the reset switch are low voltage, so you can touch them together when you need to do a reset. The typical key for the jackpot reset switch is called a "2341" key because of the number stamped on it. It was by far the most common reset key used on slot machines. You can get them several places, there are folks here on NLG that have them, plus online slot parts places and even ebay. Here is an example, see if it looks like it would fit your machine. You can also replace the reset switch pretty easy and get one that comes with a key, there is just one nut on the inside that holds it in place. You should be able to see the backside of it by looking inside the machine.

Thanks for the info. I hope to have the change thing back in this friday. I'm not sure if that is all of the problems or not. I will see what happens when I get it all put back together.
