Set090 Chip
« on: March 05, 2016, 03:15:16 PM »
Hello,

I have an IGT S+ with a DBV45 and tried following the below instructions to turn on the bill validator. I am using a Set090 chip as I have a SP1160.

http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/dbv.htm

When I get the 9-0 code in the window and press the Spin Reels to change it to 9-1, nothing happens. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Massey

I know it's a POS unit but I'd like to get it working. Anyone have ideas on how to set it up?

Thanks

Did it work before or is this a new setup?
Does the BV make any whirring sounds on start up?
Are there any lights ON at the bill entry point?

The previous owner stated that it worked prior to me purchasing it. However, he said it had been at least six months since he used it. When I got it, the battery needed replacing. I replaced the battery and everything is working fine, minus the DBV. I can only use quarters but it works great. I used a set chip 90 and was able to get to the DBV code showing 90. When I press Spin Reels to try to advance it to 91, nothing happens.

The machine does make whiting sounds like it is starting up. Attached is a pic of the lights the DBV is showing.

Nice lights there! I like the colors.
Are you using a one dollar bill? Try that first. When/if we get it working, it will only take 1's and 20's. That model is obsolete and JCM doesn't support any updates.
Also pull your cash can out and shove it back in (not too hard but firmly) with the power on. It should whirr and lock in.
ALSO... were there credits in the machine when you tried to enable the BV? I believe they have to be played off first.

I actually haven't tried putting a dollar in the DBV. I assumed it wouldn't work. Yes, there were credits on the machine when I tried to reset it. Let me go try it again.

I tried all suggestions and it still isn't allowing me to adjust to 91. I have a set 15 chip coming in so we will see if that one helps me set the DBV up.

Thanks,

Actually I think it is a pretty nice looking machine. I think this is it from your photo in your other thread.

The bill validator thing can be figured out, just takes some time going thru possibilities. Since you saw the setting 9-0 I think that means the BV is disabled, so I'd concentrate on getting a SET chip to change it to 9-1. As mentioned, keep in mind you always want to use only a $1 bill when trying to get a BV working because even a good BV can reject a $5, $10, $20 etc if its software is older. But a $1 is always accepted on a working BV no matter how old.

Also, make sure you have ZERO credits on the machine when trying to change settings. I'm not expert on this but when you can't get a setting to change it can be because of this on some models of machines.

Yes I did. I tried it with the door closed and got no response either.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm sorry if I was frustrated when I wrote that. The machine is great! I meant that I understood the DBV45 was an obsolete and undesirable BV. I've been told it only accepts 1's and maybe older 20's. I'd like to get the issue figured out because I really like the machine.

Frustration - we've all been there and know it is a pain. I see now what you meant, not the machine is a POS but the BV. Ha!  If the BV can't get working it can be replaced, there should be some DBV-200 out there that will slip right in.

Will try that. I was going to look into another BV but wanted to try the chip first to see if I could get it to work. I've seen few 200's for 25 plus shipping. I think I'd have to get a new power supply too. Weighing the cost of that vs going to a WBA12. I bought a s2000 with a WBA12 for $50 but I didn't realize it wouldn't just plug into my machine. bummer! May have to fix that one up to. hahaha. Wifey is not thrilled with the machines taking up her parking space in the garage.

The bezel you have where you insert the bills is a JCM Sentry.  The blue light you see illuminated is an ambulance symbol.  I believe that is trying to tell you there is something wrong with the validator itself.  According to the manual (http://am-en.jcmglobal.com/wp-content/uploads/Sentry_Manual.sflb_.ashx_.pdf the blue ambulance and circle with red x is "ROM verification error or jammed motor".  My guess would be a jammed motor.  Have you tried removing the validator completely from the machine?  The whole thing slides out towards the front.  Then I would check to see if you can move the gears/belts freely.

I messed with that too. Upon startup, you can see the gears turning freely. Also, when I open the transport the belts are moved easily.

Have you also removed the cash can and verified that the gears inside the can move freely as well?

I verified that the gears moved freely and the ambulance sign did concern me as I read up about it meaning possible service. I received a set15 chip today and went through the setup procedure again. Guess what? With the 15 chip in, I was able to set the DBV.

It was actually set to 91 so I changed the setting to 90 and then back to 91 for good measure. While changing the DBV settings I noticed the DBV ambulance sign went away and all the denominations lit up. I then set the denomination to 25 and hit the reset button. 61 came up, and reset that. The machine only takes $1 bills as expected but it works.

One thing I did prior to installing the 15 chip was sprayed all the DBV connectors (while powered off) with electrical contact cleaner. I'm pretty sure it was just the set chip that solved the problem but it was a good piece of mind.

Next question, when I insert dollar bills the slot acts like a change machine and distributes quarters from the hopper. Is there a setting where once a bill is inserted, you will receive credits on the machine?

Here is a pic of the working DBV. Thank you to everyone who took the time to help me with my machine. I really appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Massey

There is also the protocol setting set by dip switches. IF the protocol is wrong then it will only accept $1.
There is also dip switches that set which denominations that are accepted.
When older bills began to be counterfeited sometimes they would turn off $50's

As oer credit to coin, that is part of the S+ configuration, not governed by the set chip.
