Coin Diverter
« on: August 10, 2017, 11:17:55 PM »
I have an IGT S-Plus. It had been working fine until we moved last Nov. I just decided to get around to setting it up again and got code 12. I replaced the battery and fired it back up. Code 12 was gone and replaced with code 71. I removed the bill validator, blew it out, plugged it back in and that disappeared. It accepted a bill and now I am back in business. Now the only problem I have is my coin diverter is dropping the coins through the overflow chute and my hopper is nearly empty. What is my first step? I am fairly competent when it comes to mechanical things and some electrical. Just wondering how to test the diverter and the ground loop for the overfill probe. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, it had been paying out an extra coin more and more frequently. Is that an adjustment or a worn part.

first thing is to check the diverter operation with out power,  use your finger and see if the solenoid moves  the gate up and down freely,  next check and see if there any coins in and around the dirverter,  next see if the diverter probe in the hopper is touching any metal, if all these are good, remove the coin tray, remove the hopper, power up the machine and insert coins and see where they go, if they go back toward the hopper plug, then the gate is probably working .  you can test the diverter using output  test #33.   if all else fails you can unplug it behind the the coin optics and the gate should stay and direct the coins to the hopper.

as for the hopper overpay,  the hopper motor is drifting after power is removed, you have to clean all the parts associated with the motor brake assembly. the pivot arm, the pawl and spring, etc,  if you press in on the pivot arm with no power on the machine and it sticks to the motor armature then you have to clean it, it should spring back as soon as you let it go.

hope this helps

There is a little white pawl ( sometimes red) attached to the spring that stops the motor hub from turning after the power is cut to the motor as the last coin is paid out from the hopper..
That pawl, like Jim said, might be dirty or worn out.

For anyone reading this post, I've been trying to locate these pawls but I haven't found any decent connections.
If anyone can order a bunch of them or has a bunch to sell...let me know! Thanks!
