Some ithaca epic 850 printers don't like being hot plugged, removing the ribbon cable connection does in some of the caps, unknown reason. On ithaca epic 950s replacing the cable should be done cold, simply because it's damn easy to cause a short when placing that flimsy cable in the sockets(removing the hot 950 printer from the tray the is harmless in 99%+ cases.) I've had mixed luck with Gen2 netplex hot plugging... It's my opinion all these printer issues are because of the fairly high current and voltage they operate at combined with sensitive com wires. Duly noted, don't send 28v down a com wire, bad things happen, blown traces, NVmemory flamed out, etc.
