It's Mid 1960s. If you got it for what they were asking for it on Craigslist, and it WORKS, you stole it!  :cool_thumb_up: Depending on where you're at really determines the value. In CA, it'd bring $800-1,000, depending on the condition (cant see really in the pic). In AZ, it's worth a lot less.

I love those machines. I have a Mills "Open Front" (I think that's it's name) which has the same mech inside, I believe.
If you need a manual for your "M," here's a link for the download.

You've got a LATE 1960's Mills M-Head there. If you look inside the case on the left side drill-proof plate there should be a serial number tag. Sometimes they fall off and get discarded as they were put on with paste. I have two of these style machines and the serials are 619317 in 5-cent and 619398 in 25-cent. I have discovered that there are two actual dates for each these machines due to the way they were assembled.

Mills Bell-O-Matic in Reno assembled mechanisms for the M-Heads in various denominations and wrote the date of assembly of the mech on the bottom of  the base plate in marking pen. It appears as "MBOM" over a 5 digit number over a date. The "MBOM" stands for Mills Bell-O-Matic. The number is  the mechanism number in straight serial form beginning with the mechs made for post Hi-Top machines. Once an order was placed for a machine or machines, the applicable denomination mech was pulled from the shelf and the appropriate reel bundle inserted and any required wiring attached for lights and a hopper if that was to be installed. A bare case was then pulled from a rack and the appropriate wiring, lights and electrics installed per the order. If it was a hopper equipped model, the tall case was used with the flip down lower front door. If no hopper was ordered, they used a short case with a front pull-out money tray that had the money bowl on the front. If a hopper was ordered, one of the correct denomination was installed, and this is where the date confusion begins.

The date in marking pen is the date the basic mech was assembled. If you look on the front edge of the hopper base you will find a date in the form of "month day year", such as "1 7 70" and a serial number following. That is the date the hopper was made. (If you look further inside on the base plate you will see "JENNINGS & CO" stamped over "DIV OF HERSHEY MANUFACTURING". The M-Head hoppers were not made by Bell-O-Matic.) Of the two, the date of the hopper manufacture is the closest to the actual date of assembly of the complete machine, assuming the hopper is original to the cabinet. Otherwise, the date on the bottom of  the mech base is the second best. The list of the serial numbers that are pasted onto the cabinet side has not been located to my knowledge, but THAT would be the ultimate determination of the actual completion date of the entire machine. That 6-digit number is a straight-line serial from the beginning of Mills 3 reel slot machines since they started making the cast iron case Operators Bell in 1910.

As always, and especially with casino machines, mechs and hoppers were switched around a lot. Thus precise dating is an educated guess at best.
My 25-cent M-Head is case number 619398 and mech build date of 12/8/69 and a hopper build date of 1/7/70. So assuming it's all original, that would have rolled out of Bell-O-Matic's Reno shop during late January of 1970.

Hope this helps

Forgot to add this one of the hopper date and serial number. I hope our great moderator can correct the picture orientation on prior post!
