Aussie Olympic Machine Problems
« on: January 20, 2016, 03:12:45 AM »
Hi guys,
Im new here and have recently purchased my first machine.
I picked up this Olympic machine and was told it was previously working until the bloke moved its showing the following error.

 When I switch machine on it comes up with this grey screen stating which button panel is installed? None of the buttons are working but two light up when the machine is started until the screen changes to the error they turn off again.
I have searched the forums and google and can't seem to work out a solution. I have yet to tamper with it as I previously mentioned this is my first machine and i'd like to get some insight before I do so. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Sorry the pics aren't the best. Don't have the best lighting in the pool room

Thanks,
 Sarah

Never had this machine, so I'm not to sure but as you say none of the buttons work, It does say touch screen is present. Does this machine have touch Screen? Try touching one of the button formats on the screen. I'm sure you've probably already tried this haha

Hi Stag,
Thanks for the reply funny enough I gave that a try haha but it is defiantly not touch screen it is an old box style screen.
This is the only place I've been able to get information on these Olympics
I turned it on yesterday and have noted that when I turn the machine on and the Olympic start screen comes up a couple of the buttons flash until it gets to This screen and the light in them turns off

Welcome to NLG Sarah. I know nothing about these machines but if I had it......Does it have a reset key on the side or a reset button you can push? Maybe inside? I can't find any info on this machine. It acts like it's working, as the message doesn't look like an error warning. It looks more like a menu option.

Main board has lost its boot up code and can't be reprogrammed back on there without the correct/special tools which means its a boat anchor best of stripping it for parts or putting a mame/jukebox system in it

A ram clear/clear chip will not fix this problem what so ever. there is a square SMD chip on there that holds the boot up info on there and over time it gets corrupt and you lose the start up device check list i have had many of those PCBs out of that machine model do that only to end up in the bin

Bump, 4 years later!

Has anyone had any breakthroughs on this recently?  I've got 3 sets of boards in the garage and I'd rather not bin them if I don't have to!

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Mazwreck,

Thanks very much for your quick reply.  In the garage of my new place, I found:

* Cabinet as pictured
* 3x CPU/IO board sets (2x with multi-game ROMs, 1x with Blue Heelers ROM)
* Spare meter board
* Spare coin validator

Looks like the previous owner bought a few parts in an attempt to get it working, and ended up just leaving it behind.  The three boards are basically doing the following:

* Multi-game board 1 - Originally showed 'logic seal error'.  After a RAM clear, it got stuck at the config screen. Not acknowledging any input.
* Multi-game board 2 - Originally showed 'meter error'.  After a RAM clear, it got stuck at the config screen. Not acknowledging any input.
* Blue Heelers board - Shows 'IO card error'.  Tried a RAM clear but it didn't work.  Not acknowledging any input.

It seems all the boards have basically the same issue.  I did notice one pair of red/green LEDs on the CPU board is brighter than the other pair.  Is that normal?  Also on the I/O boards there is a flashing 'heartbeat' LED, and some of the other LEDs light up if I disconnect something important like the coin validator, so I guess they're error LEDs?

If you have some pointers as to where I should start to look, I'd really like to hear them.  I've read a few of your older posts saying these machines are basically boat anchors, but I'd love to have a shot at fixing it rather than throwing it all away and converting it to a MAME box.  Seems like it's a piece of Aussie history!

Thanks again.
