Title: Universal Hopper
Post by: Frederick on April 24, 2016, 01:55:22 PM
Help please. My universal slot machine gets stuck with a quarter in the hopper. I pry it out near the top of the hopper and it works a few more times then it gets stuck again. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Need more info.
What type of Universal hopper? The standard green metal hopper?
What type of game? Older Uni, Ultra Series?

And, how did this happen? Something like; Just got the machine and it has this problem, or, machine was working fine and just started acting up.

Thanks for the reply uniman.  Old universal slot with stainless steel hopper. Quarter gets stuck just recently. I remover cowling and quater is stuck in upper left hand corner. I pop it out and works for 4 or five plays then quarter gets stuck again.

I am assuming your getting an error code. Possibly error 21?
I'm also assuming the coin is not stuck but sitting at the hopper's opening and it takes a screwdriver to pop it out.

If this is the case then....
Sounds like the hopper's kicker is not snapping back. It deflects coins back into the hopper after the exact amount is dispensed. When it does not snap back extra coins are dispensed and some will sit at hopper's discharge chute.

You will need to take the top and back off of the hopper ( 1 piece). From the back you can see the solenoid that draws the kicker in, and you can see the spring that snaps it back in place when the solenoid disengages. Check the unit by sliding the solenoid armature in and out of solenoid. Push it in and let go, it should snap back. If not then figure out why. Is it sticky in the solenoid (spray a little WD40 on it) or is the spring weak or busted. (replace spring).
