Title: eKey self destruct?
Post by: edoleu on August 11, 2020, 11:58:57 AM
Is it true that the IGT eKeys will self-destruct if you plug them into a USB slot on a PC?

How does that work?

I don't think it's true, but I've never tried it.  I know sometimes, the dongles have a storage area.  Windows will write stuff the minute you insert a usb storage device to index it's contents.  Once it writes to it, unless you can delete what it wrote, it would invalidate the device if the game does crc checks on it.  I'm not sure if IGT does crc checks when you insert the e-key, but it is not worth a $350 experiment to try from my point of view.

Thanks for your reply.

I am very curious to see what happens.

Am I willing to risk it for the edification of the community at large?

Surely someone must have done it at some point.

I'm with Rick on this one.

Anything OEM I prefer not to insert into a PC.

I think if it didn't corrupt the files on the eKey7, you would see a ton of bootleg drives out there on the auction sites. And I cant say I've ever seen a fake ekey anywhere for sale.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Good luck if you decide to experiment though.

Let us know how it turns out.

Curtis,

That is a very good point.
