I’ve been reading some threads and I could use some assistance please. I did a clear/boot on a “BIG TOP CIRCUS” machine. Setup All the parameters and now that I’ve moved the machine, it won’t fire up. When power is turned on, I get a “C6” on display board. No picture, CD lights for a moment and that’s it. In the threads it about the Dimm board needing to be replaced. It states that I can purchase one at computer store. I’m not sure what I need to ask for being completely clueless on computer stuff. It also stated that I could use the SIMM boards as well. I’m familiar with those in IGT machines. Any thoughts on where to start this next task? I did try the clear chip again and same C6 appears, even tried the eraser on the Dimm card.

It appears that this Dimm card is 168 pin, 100 mhz, 256 mb. Can I use a higher frequency/memory one? My terminology might be confusing, I’m terrible with computer stuff.

Short answer would be no.
Why?
Because the MPU computer wasn't designed for any faster MHz speeds...you'd burn out stuff trying to force the computer to run at over-clocked speeds.
However, you maybe able to use larger sized RAM memory to maybe 512mb in size....but probably not any more than that.
Anything larger would just be wasted, anything faster would just cook your processor.
For your information, the correct way to spell "Dimm" I believe, is with capital letters only.
It stands for "dual in-line memory module".
The same thing applies with MB and MHz...the first letters are capitalized.

Well...I'm sure there's stuff you've learned at Motorola that we wouldn't know too!! haha
Anyways, I tried to give you the simplest explanation to your question.....there's a LOT more involved but that's the basic jist of things.
Most computers mostly have somewhat limited "back-wards compability", but not so much as able being to work with newer stuff without any upgrades of software and hardware.

Great Day to All. I found a DIMM card/ board replacement, and I could use some help, with this. I put the new DIMM card on my board and installed it into my machine. I don’t know if I’ve jumped the gun her, but I was Anxious to see if it would work. The C6 disappeared and now the display shows FF. The CRT showed the machine went through the memory test and is now showing this, (Picture). Next to the “Cache Memory” with a blinking_ next to it. I would like to know, what my next steps will be. Thanks again for All of Your help.

Sorry, made a mistake on Post. I wrote that it shows “FF”, (that’s what I wanted to see), display is showing “61”.

The simm sockets are next to the dimm socket. These can take both.

I’m still learning this concept, Sorry for my ignorance. Was I supposed to leave in the Original DIMM card and put the new DIMM card in One in a SIMM sockets?
I took the. Original out and put the new one in its place and then, this message appeared on the screen. I was thinking that I need to do a U51, “ALL CLEAR” procedure, but wanted to make sure that I don’t destroy anything else.

the board can take both, not the sockets.

Thank You, I’m learning the terminology better now and I replaced the DIMM. I cleared the board and reprogrammed the options. Everything seems to be working. I appreciate Everyone’s support and guidance.
