Title: Disconnecting a BV from a G23
Post by: Yoeddy1 on May 04, 2023, 12:33:27 AM
Hi guys,

I need some help.  I need to rule out a compatibility issue with my G23 and the Fam20 adventure I’m on.  I’m trying to correct an issue with a “USB Device Offline” issue.  Different cables, different ports, nothing will get rid of it.  I disconnected the USB cable and the larger molex connector on the BV under the USB cable.  I then wiped everything and started fresh, but the goddamned machine still sees it, and I still get the error.

Does anybody know where the BV connects to on the backplane?  I’ll disconnect the cable from that location.

This BV is an upside down feeding Mars.  The head is an SC6602.  I read a forum post on Delphi that said that it should work as long as it is flashed with the USB firmware.  It works with FAM14 too.

Anyway, I want to make sure the machine doesn’t see it, so if anyone could tell me the magic location, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jason

The 6602 will work with the exception of having to put the tickets in upside down.  I say "will work" only if the correct firmware is installed.
What firmware are you using for the SC6602?
It is strange that it is working with Fam14 but not Fam20 though.

See attached.  I also had issue with the printer being offline, but after moving USB cables around on the backplane, it resolved itself.

Do I need a powered hub?  Is it the ribbon cable that’s causing this?  There is a status LED for USB, so that looks good.

98220 is ID024 firmware. That's probably the issue. 98222 is correct for ID028 USB.

Thanks, Ron!  So I guess I would have to send the BV head out to get flashed.  Strange that it works with Family14, but maybe it’s a totally different beast with Family20.

So probably not anything CPU related then?

While at it, does the printer firmware seem to be ok?  I uploaded both the printer and BV firmware versions for reference.

Thanks,
Jason

I got the game running!  Had to disable the BV with the ekey, but it seems to be working!

I really appreciate the help guys!  I need to get that BV updated it looks like.

I could flash as many as anyone wants.  I have a programmer, but it needs programmed and I can 't seem to find a computer that will support bin files to get it downloaded on my programmer.  If anyone knows how to do this let me know.

Above is a link on how to change for example a computer with Windows 8 to run with older programs such as Windows XP or Windows 7 ?

I think that's one way to run an older program....it does NOT always work though.

I'm fortunate that I've always kept my older laptops running Windows 7 and earlier.

The newer OS just LOVE leaving one byte files on your stuff... :banghead:...rendering them useless because of the corrupted one byte CRC/checksum value.

Do you need the banana programmers if you have the cashflow sts software and bins? Can you not just USB directly from the windows pc via USB directly to the MEI bv head and flash that way?
