Title: NXT 3.2 video card questions
Post by: Yoeddy1 on May 18, 2023, 06:03:09 PM
Ok, so I have 2 video cards that are both ATI video cards and they are working perfectly.  A while back I bought an MPU and a video card from a guy that isn’t a member out here.  I got the MPU and the coax digital sound port wasn’t working, and I was fed some bullshit line that some of them weren’t active and you had to use the phono jack on the amp.  I did some research and discovered that the coax solder points hadn’t held, so I reflowed the solder joints, and now it works fine.  Whatever.  The original video card didn’t work either, so I was sent another one and was told it would run Wonka and any game I threw at it.  In the meantime I ended up buying another 3.2 MPU from morespeed…NLG member and great guy!  It’s worked perfectly since I bought it.  I’ve just used it all along, and haven’t bothered testing the other video card until now…shame on me.

So here’s the deal, the other guy sent me a card that is labeled AMD, not ATI, and has different numbers.  I threw it into my working MPU, and I can load and configure games, but the images are too large for the monitor horizontally.  The right side spills off of the screen and there’s no way to adjust it.  Wonka gets to the configuration screen, but it’s too big and the touch screen doesn’t line up with where I’m touching.  All other games that I throw at it load up and are playable, but they’re just too large.

The question is:  Is that AMD card meant for another type of monitor/game?  Or should it work with everything I have, and it should be considered defective?

I included photos of all 3 cards.  Any insight would be great!

Thanks,
Jason

AMD bought ATI, but your issue is that the AMD card usually comes with the 3.5NXT MPU (which I believe is identical to the 3.2 other than the different ATI card).  I think the AMD (which is a newer type of gpu) was meant to go with the Blade family of cabinets which use 1080p (1920 x 1080) monitors.  If you have a bb2 conversion, you have 1680 x 1050.  I have a 3.5NXT MPU that I've only tested on my blade cabinet, so it has always worked like it should with the AMD card.  There may be version of the AMD card with firmware that will work with a converted bb2, but I'm not entirely sure on this matter.

Interesting.  I’ll probably just sell it or trade it for something then.

Like I said the image is beautiful, it’s just too big spills off of the right side of the screen.

Thanks,
Jason

What OS are you using with the game?  I've had issues with older OS's that would display like that when I was running my bb2 as a conversion.  Using an updated OS fixed the issue.

NSOS-000-4052 with Bier Haus on Tap

With Wonka it would have been the version that it shipped with.

Use something newer than that and see if it works.  I always use whatever is newest. So something around H19.07x.

I’ll give it a whirl.  Wonka’s the only one that I’ve ever seen that has color/graphics layering issues with the newer OS’s.

I’ll report back.

Thanks, Rick.

i wonder if one of those video detective devices would work if sofeware won't. I had one i used to use for "Mad Men" the upper monitor i have is a 32" mounted to side of machine on wall. I believe or think the original monitor for game was a curved 42". I was able to resize the video to fit screen to look perfect on 32 inch screen. I dont have the unit anymore so cant test. I do remember I purchased unit from eBay for 35.00 or so. This was some time ago tho. I dont know if available or what not. I think the brand name was Geffen or something like this.

Ok guys, I put the AMD card back in, and installed H19.072 with Wonka.  Perfect!  No problems at all, so that’s good!  Put in Bier Haus on Tap…image looks good…just too big.  Same as before with that game.  Maybe that game needs its original OS…didn’t test it.  I honestly think the card is fine…I just think it depends on the game and OS requirements.  I wish there was a document out there.

Thanks,
Jason
