I think he meant to say the sata to cfast adapter.

???
I had no clue that was possible?
Does that allow a CFast card to plug into a MK7 carrier board somehow?
All I see is a USB slot in the front of the logic box on the carrier board???

I'll send some pictures of how I did it. I used a CFAST to SATA reader and made a cable to power it  Yes it's great as you no longer have to convert!!

Here what it looks like.
You can use a adapter or a SSD
The SSD runs a little slower though.

jakah440 mounted his, which is nicer.I set mine just on top of the carrier box.

One thing I want to point out.
If you use the adapter with a CFast 3ME4 card (which most of the newer software is on) the machine wont see the card. You need to put it on a CFastME card.

So I could end up back where I am now still having to convert to make it work...
Maybe not worth it to change now?

I like how you guys are thinking!
That's a slick idea...

I never realized that is how a hard drive connected to a MK7.
I had seen games on hard drives in the past but had no clue how they were used...

The advantage of CFast over cf is they are faster. The machine boots faster with the CFast.

To run a factory Aristocrat program that’s on a ssd you need to makes changes to the chips in U2 and U3.You remove the bios chip because the bios is on the ssd drive.

Hopefully Chad from the facebook nlg group is taking notes.  😀

I'll add that some require specific hardware such as a dynamic button panel or a monitor that needs to be able to hit some of the higher resolutions of a wide screen.

Justin

What game have you found that requires a higher res Wide Screen?  I never had an issue with screen res on a WS with any Helix  or Helix + game. I was even able to play Buffalo Gold Revolution, a Gen9 MarsX game, on mine after I added a USB touch controller.

What USB touch controller did you use for this conversion?

Also, the OLED deck is a must but most of the WS Viridians come with them.

Micro-touch USB controller with the USB cable.  It's a straight forward conversion.  Just disconnect the serial controller and add the USB version along with the cable plugged into a USB port on the backplane.  I still have an extra one if you need it.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

Just for future reference...
This is the USB controller I put in mine. Got it off eBay.
https://www.ceronix.com/product/cpm2484/

I think I got the USB cable from Ceronix but you can also make your own...
It was like $5 but cost $10 to ship...  :24:
https://www.ceronix.com/product/cps1980/

I failed to get Buffalo Revolutions to load. I was told it required a USB touch.
I swapped out my controller and Revolutions loaded just fine...
I ran Revolution in my cabinet with a static button panel.
I was told Revolutions was a Gen9 game?

I have Walking Dead 3 but haven't tried it yet.
It is a EdgeX game that requires a certain resolution [4K] 32" monitor, virtual button deck and Vertex controller if I understand correct...

Would it be possible to have you take a picture of the Molex end of that cable. Ceronix now wants 24.95 to ship that 5.00 cable.  I think i would like to make one instead!!

Thanks, Justin

If you call them they will adjust shipping to around $10...
...their website can't handle tiny items.

i believe to play the lightning Link games you need the LCD buttons and i haven't seen a good way to incorporate the LCD buttons into that cabinet.

I can play LL games on my WS Viridian with a green board and standard button panel no problem...
I do prefer LL on my dynamic button panel WS cabinet...

LL games or LC games?

I purchased 5 LL games for helix a while ago with the intent of changing to cf and using in my varidian, however was told shortly after by 'techs' that LL games will not work standalone. So they have been sitting in a draw going to waste

If they aren’t connected to a vertex controller they will be Lightning Cash instead of Lightning Link.

Do you have a list of what software you have?
