Title: S2000 mpu needed?
Post by: Catalinafan on September 28, 2016, 04:13:48 PM
Hi all. Having issues with s2000  was working fine then suddenly reels stopped and all door display went out
I opened door and noticed all Amber LEDs on mpu on steady and red one flashing ( fast flash-out-fast flash-out) after. I can't get any response from anything. I tried clear chip  1st time very slow to light top 2 ambers I then replaced with stock stepper and immediately all amber lights back on no response after waiting 5 minutes.  I then tried clear chip again and top 2 ambers immediately lit as soon as powered on and then nothing.  Same results when I replaced stock stepper
Board crapped out?  Ram? Anything I'm missing?
I think it's a 502 board
So if anyone has one reasonably priced please let me know
LEDs pic 1 -stock base chip
LEDs pic 2 -clear chip

Test your battery's voltage.  If you have the Varta green battery (Big battery looks like a little barrel), look for leakage and damage around it.

Button cell 2.98
Varta removed
Metered all connections and found nothing bad
Forgot to mention u77 had acid damage and during a cleaning attempt the solder pads had lifted and all but fell off. So I went ahead and removed it
But..... It still worked perfectly fine up till a few days ago
Not sure how to test ram but all other proms have been removed and flashed new ones replacing them one at a time. With no success

At this point, I would try a different mpu.  Might as well get a 504B if you can find one.  Much better than the 502's and they have a lot less sound hiss.

That's my thoughts as well
FYI I have no hiss or odd sounds of any kind from speakers
Where would be the best place to purchase a board. I tried to look through nlg classifieds but don't know how to narrow search instead of spending hours scrolling

FYI: Your board is a 504B not a 502. Check the P/N label next to the serial #. It should read 75510504 Rev B.

Could someone please tell me if a 504 enhanced board would be compatible?
I read about needing to change motherboard on some

500 series MPU Boards all use the same mother board. If you changed to the 1270 board, then you would need to change your mother board..

In the short term the 50x board would be cheaper. That board pictured in the link you have posted isn't an enhanced board. It's the 50x series.

If you want to move up to the enhanced 1270 boards I have them for $150. Varta battery removed and tested.

Includes all three boards and both the 224 and 45 chips.

Thanks to clarify pic. I was confused on that as well
I would prefer to stick with the 504b board as no other changes will need to be made
