Title: 1099 intermittent first reel hang
Post by: Phan000 on December 19, 2021, 10:34:50 AM
Fixing this machine for a friend.

Reel stops would not engage.  Upon inspect, clock gears were shot.

Replaced clock and stops work fairly well now-

However, first reel will intermittently pull back very briefly, or not at all when handle is pulled.  I cleaned and lubed everything in that area already.

the most common problem is the kick is happening a little too quickly - before the reel 1 index arm has latched.  Reel 1 immediately indexes instead of spinning for a while.

see if moving the stop bracket on the right rear/bottom of the reel mech a little toward the front helps.

What I had was maybe uncommon but you never know... my topic discusses most of the common problems too:

Thanks for the suggestions.  That last thread ^ looked like you went deep down the rabbit hole chasing a broken pin!

Just out of curiosity is it a $1 criss cross machine?

It was a quarter version.  Lubed and adjusted a bit and the problem was pretty much nonexistent.
