873 A discs and reel stripes (part nrs)
« on: January 08, 2022, 08:37:23 AM »
Is there a list available of used discs and reel stripes in the 873 A (or other versions)?

My friend has (which he believes) wrong set of reels in his machines, and is looking for a solution to fix it.

the reel tapes on an 873-A would be M-222-[4, 5, 6].  They are fruit symbols, 7 and single bar.  You can't see the tape numbers without removing the top of the tapes from the tins ... the part numbers are printed on the tapes but hidden by the overlap.

the corresponding index discs would be P-684-[7, 7, 8].   They may have that (or close) number stamped in them, or they could have B-3LE-[1, 1, 3].

the details for the tapes, index discs slots, reel wiper wiring, payout counter and schem are in in https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/873-A/

there were many other 873 versions, but the most common were the fruit and lightning models.   There's other 873 version available in  https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

the most likely thing to be wrong on a game is the serial/model number plate.  The easiest thing is probably look and see what code is stamped into the index discs he has, the M-645-xxx number on the payout counter disc and a picture of the entire front of the game.  If there's writing on sharpie on various units like the reel mech, reel wiper boards or hopper, that helps too.

Hi Wolftalk and thank you for taking the time to answer me with all the detail!

I received pictures of him (he opened the top of  reel strips) and this is what I could see.

Reel 1: strip B-3LE-1 M-222-4 with disk B-3LE-1
Reel 2: strip B-3LE-2 M-222-5 with disk B-3LE-1
Reel 3: strip B-3LE-3 M-222-6 with disk B-3LE-3

So this seems correct?

Thinking of this... he has some problems too with his top lights not lighting correctly when adding more coins... i verified switches, stepper unit and all seems visually ok.
But lights of line 1, 2, 3 seem lit dimly on coin 1, and go out on adding second coin and so on... So something strange is happening on that top unit.    But.... the line lights light correctly on the reel glass?

looks right.

the remaining things are the reel wipers ... which are almost certainly right ... and the payout counter disc.

the line step-up unit is controlling the lights.   It's a rare unit in that if the wipers are on backwards, the pays will still work but only the first coin light would work since the unit does not control that.  So, it's not the wipers.

I'd stick paper between the jackpot relay switches to open them.  At that point, the line unit should only be powering the three lamps that go with each line (one on reel glass, two for each line up top ... I think).

if when the line is reset lines 2-3 are still dim, look for shorts on the lamp socket/wiring and verify the line unit is reset correctly.  Try slipping paper under the wipers on the line unit and see what happens.

the 1st coin lights are general illumination - always on.  Do they stay on as the line unit steps up?

Well he has a 831H too with P-684-[7, 7, 8] disc and M-222-159 (and so on) reel stripes, he put them in the 873A and the machine works as aspected!  Can you imagine.

I told him to do a watch and compare... maybe it's something stupid as misaligned wipers, or misinstalled index wheels...   Curious too what he founds, I'll post it.

And yes I've checked for shorts too in the head on light sockets, removed lamps.   The crazy thing is that 2 of the jackpot lights on the top glass light with the line lights.   So this makes me think of something shorting or miswired or...

And yes, as he compared... the index reels where misinstalled by 45 degrees!!    Always nice to solve problems like this :)

Now to investigate his head unit... but one problem is already solved.
