Title: Bally s5500 issues
Post by: etnfrd67 on February 22, 2017, 02:54:19 PM
Hello all I'm new to this website so if this topic has been brought up I am sorry.

I received a Bally s5500 from a friend that was not working when I got it. He said he didn't know what was wrong with it. I would turn on the machine and nothing would happen only the door lights would go on. So I did some searching on the internet and saw that it was a bad power supply possibly. So I purchased a power supply on ebay. When I got the power supply I put it in. The bill machine started blinking red and the lcd display showed f 83. So I thought progress. I shut the power off while I researched code f 83. Came back to the machine to do a (Soft?) reset turned on the power and nothing but the door light again. No blinking bill taker and no lcd display. But if I play with the wiring harness for the lcd display I can get 8's to display or 2's or jumbled stuff or it goes bright to dim to off to bright again. SO I am not sure where to go with it or if there is a short that killing the power supply. I saw in a post to test for power coming out of power supply but not sure how to check that. Could the main board be bad? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you

Your replacement power  supply  may be defective?  Also check the MPU battery voltage for 3.6 volts. That may be the cause of the 83F error.
