hi folks new here
i have a bally e1000 i believe i've had it for 10 yrs or so
i moved the machine from house to house and it stopped working
when i pushed the test button the last digit would go to 1 but as soon as i released it would go back to zero
so i started messing with connectors
i pulled the connector of the board behind the hopper with the big capacitor on it above the power supply
now the display flashes 16 1.0.10 the 1.0.10 stays lit and then 33 1.0.10 with 33 flashing back and forth 16-33
how bad did i f up?
any help would be greatly appreciated
machine has worked flawlessly since i got it and replaced the hopper board
hope someone can help

The board behind the hopper is the power supply.
The conector pins can loose there conection and by unplugging and repluging the conector it
will self clean the pins.
Do you have a multimeter?
If so you can test the power outputs at the test points.
-
yeah i have a multi meter
-
seems i have no power going to the reels and the coin mech
the reset button seems to work but test button does nothing
-
ok turns out it was the battery
now im back where i started
win meter says 5000000
door open all the time closed or open but the door open lamp doesnt light
test button will make win meter go to 1 only when pressed release it and goes to zero cant do any tests
-
Make sure the pins and related connectors for the RAM board are clean and not corroded.
Also un-plug and plug back in the two RAM chips on the RAM board.
-
turns out this is an e2000
sorry should have done more homework
says door is open all the time
no power to coin lockout
insert coin lights has no power
im lost all i did was put a new power cord on it
-
seems the machine is an e2000 has the bigger rectangle win meter display
battery was dead causing the odd win meter display
now soon as i turn machine on win meter says 5000000
weather door is open or closed
have 5 volts to reels
no power to insert coin lights or coin lockout coil
cleaned all the connector pins on i/o board
checked voltages at power supply test points all good
cleaned all legs on prom chips looked for any cold solder joints on all boards
when i turn machine on delay relay energizes and flourecents light up
no light on door open light no power to call attendant button
disconnected all plugs a zillion times
any ideas anyone my kids are driving me nuts to play the machine again

500000 check the pins on the ribbon cable from IO to MPU - make sure non are broken and that the cable is on correctly
-
The battery is a rechargeable nicad and should not be replaced with a non rechargeable lithium.
-
there is no ribbon cable from i/o to mpu
there is four plugs on the i/o at the top
one plug on the mpu and a ribbon cable to the win meter
-
There has to be a ribbon cable from the MPU board to the I/O board or you get the 50000 display. If one side of the ribbon cable is in backwards you get the 5k display accompanied by a lot of solenoid clacking.
Is your 50V fuse ok?
Also check your RAM sockets for corrosion.
-
Couple of images that show the ribbon cable locations:
-
"Hopper connectors" is actually "reel mech connectors".
-
Ah, good catch. Thanks for that, I'll revise it immediately :=)
-
ok update and thanks for all the help thus thus far to everyone
ok so now i have retrieved the ribbon cable from dispicable soon to be ex
now when i power on the machine with door open i get 5000000
i can cycle thru the tests
soon as i put game in play mode i get a bad humming coming from the reel selenoids
also keep blowing the top right hand fuse in the fuse block
if i go to test 8 and put a coin in nothing happens
no insert coin light ,25 cent light or door open tower light come on
in test 8 i did get it to play once i expect before that fuse blew
manual doesnt say much about what fuse is for what
where do i start to look?
-
It could be you have a bad triac on the I/O board or maybe you plugged in the two reel mech plugs backwards?
Remove the I/O board and check all triac legs on the bottom for a shorted triac.
-
everything on the i/o board looks ok
reels were plugged in right
red plug in the back
without hopper installed and reels out still blows that fuse
top right on the fuse block
what does that run so i know where to look ?
unplugged all connectors off i/o board except ribbon to mpu still blew top right fuse
-
Looks like a short in the lighting somewhere:

Update
SUCCESS
Well almost
but machine is functioning
few bugs to clear up yet
will put it all back together and let you's know where i am at shortly
getting the odd reel error but i'm gonna lube it up and blow some dust out
Thanks to all that helped greatly appreciated
